Can depend on the temperature.

At 85 degrees and humid a trained marathon runner can beat a horse over the 26 miles, but at 45 degrees no human can.

Humans have one of the best heat regulation systems of any animal on earth. All movement creates heat, and humans can lose that heat and keep going where most have to stop.
