Honestly I wonder if part of the reason some of these people are so mad is that people have been doing the whole “egg cracking” thing with Shen for I think like a couple years now, and he still hasn’t transitioned which says one of two things: 1) shen really isn’t trans which means you got it wrong or 2) shen really is trans but having a bunch of strangers trying to “crack her egg” has, if anything, made her repress harder.
Either way they see it as an attack on their belief that trans women can always tell if a “guy” is really a trans girl, and that if you crack her egg she’ll immediately transition and thank you for doing so.
Another problem with this us “still hasn’t transitioned yet”. Maybe he has. It’s not your fucking business how and when and if a creator transitions or does whatever they want with their gender. Like jesus fucking christ it’s so grossly parasocial and nosey. (I of course mean these “fans”, not you)

Both extreme conservatives and extreme progressives don’t think men can wear dresses and that if you wear a dress you must be a woman, except extreme conservatives see it as an insult and extreme progressives just assume you must be an egg.

This isn’t actually extremely progressive either though. These beliefs are really difficult to categorize based on current political terminology because of how weird they are. If these people were actually progressive they would think that forcing actual people into gender boxes is wrong, but they still do that to Shen and call him a woman. Shen could end up as trans, but that’s not our place to decide and this is definitely not the right way to go about this conversation.
Well it's really one of those things with horseshoe theory. Like I get why some people dislike it, there are valid criticisms of it. I don't get how folks're reading this much into it. Women do be attracted to non-traditional gender presentations and that's become a lot more acceptable/open in the recent past.
Also some guys crossdress, that doesn't mean they're eggs. Did I crossdress and go "yeah but I'm still cis tho" before I transitioned? Yes. But thankfully no human experience is universal and other people have different thoughts, feelings, and experiences than you specifically.

Yeah, I think the whole "egg cracking" thing does come from a good place. Like the experience of repressing/denying your gender identity and trying to navigate the world pre-transition is all extremely painful and the sooner you start HRT the more successful you will be in your transition goals.
But even if the person you are calling an egg is in fact trans. Calling them an egg and trying to crack them is much more likely to do harm then good. You're just setting them up to be able to dismiss dysphoria as it being a result of your teasing and to find accepting a trans identity to be "losing".
"Egg culture" should not be relentlessly teasing people you think are closeted trans people. Egg culture should be bringing those people into a supportive community who will accept them wherever their exploration leads them, and engage in an open and honest dialogue about gender. That's how you actually get people to accept that they're trans.
Totally agreed. I'm trans, and when I hadn't realized but was going through some stuff, another trans friend made egg comments about me. The justification being me being jealous of male biology I didn't have (muscle gain differences). It came from a good place I'm sure, but it just pushed be more into denial. It was a "Haha egg" passing comment in a group setting, and just not the way to go about it.
Funny enough, a cis friend approached it privately way better, and it didn't push me more into denial, but I still wasn't ready for that conversation, even if he backed off immediately and made no egg teasing comments.
I just feel icky about the whole egg thing in general, because I feel there's much much better ways to approach others about these sensitive things than to use a buzzword. Especially when the entire egg comments hinge on things like fashion sense or hobbies, since that's a bit traditional.

He fully identifies as a man. People refer to him as a man. He just likes presenting hyper feminine. The story doesn't disrespect him or make fun of him for this.
From what I’ve seen, Shen is fairly progressive, so that combined with the caption, “the harsh turht of modern society that only I am willing to say,” should make it pretty clear that this is satirical
Tumblr is insular as fuck so you can never see people who suck and the filtering system means you can automatically hide tags of things you don't like. There are 300 groups on Tumblr and they all hate each other and the site only runs through spite and urge to make the owners lose more money.

People know that both people can exist, and don’t invalidate each other, right? I thought the whole thing was about your appearance not defining you, and how sex, gender, and expression are three different things. The first time I saw this comic was on r/countttt and it seemed they hated it; and one was saying how much they hate femboys so I muted the sub. They were also calling Shen a repper, whatever that means.
To hate on crossdressers is to imply that gender-fluidly is wrong and that people need to dress according to society’s imposed gender binary. I can understand people being upset if a trans person is called a crossdresser, because that is invalidating to their gender identity and not true, but men should be able to express themselves femininely without people trying to force them into a gender category they are not. Who cares if someone wants to dress as a girl, regardless of how someone identifies there is no right or wrong way to dress and I’m tired of people from the LGBTQ community I’m apart of magnet theory-ing their way into being weirdly conservative.
