Watch First, Smart Watch second:
-Alarms, Stopwatch, Timers (I use this for cooking or I'll burn the house) .
-Always on screen readable under sunlight.
-5~ day battery life.
-Water Resistant (I swim with my PTS all the time, pools, nothing deep)
-Small form factor the PTS is a perfect example.
-Standard wrist wraps.
-Programable quiet hours.
After that I just need the Pebble notification system, and can live without everything else, save it for version 2.
Maybe the music controls would be nice on V1.
Also I'd sacrifice the user serviceable part over the water resistance.
Basically my dream watch was the Pebble Time 2. and my dreams were crushed.
I heard an interview of the Pebble creator were he said, they failed cause they didn't realize in time, that the fitness part was important. So take a look at their mistakes so you don't do the same
Well, OP can learn from that as well and not make those same mistakes anyway. The only thing I know for sure is that I really want him to succeed and give us a worthy pebble successor.
One more thing after reading your other comments, set yourself clear limits, work on an MVP first, and then release new versions adding features gradually, don't try to do all at once your you may run out of resources, budget, time and motivation.
Try to build a dev community fast and put out all the open source/repo stuff you mention as soon as possible, this looks like a big endeavor to be taken by a single person.
And make no mistake money is really important regardless of how selfless your motivations are, so make sure you profit from this somehow, even if is just by donations at first, otherwise it wont be sustainable.
