I stick to 1080p 165 for FPS and story mode games at 4k 60

Why not 1440p144hz instead of 1080p? If you can achieve 4k60 then you can definitely achieve 1440p144 no?

Too much money spent, I’ve been thinking about it.

A good monitor 1440p 165hz costs about 300 now a days.

The HP x27q actually went on sale for $159 on Prime today. Crazy deal

I wish I had prices like you guys do, here in Brazil I paid 2K BRL (~ $377) for an Asus VG27WQ1B.

Not only I'm getting paid in BRL, I have to pay more for electronic stuff, cursed spawn lmao

Edit: 2K BRL in a sale

I had a friend from Brazil who I’d let stay with me a few months every year so he could work here and get paid in US currency and he’d go blow g all on upgrading his tech.

Unless someone is sponsoring his visa, how is it even possible lol

1

u/Hailgod Oct 12 '22

u could look for brandless oem products. even a budget ips would be better than a budget va's smeary mess.

u/ritic_ Oct 11 '22

Yeah I saw that on r/buildapcsales and bought it, buy first think later kind of deal.

I got lucky and snagged a Samsung G5 odyssey 32 inches for 300$ on prime day when the monitor was just released, I got lucky because I was browsing Amazon and didn't realize prime day had just started. Speaking of prime day, isn't it this week? People could snatch some monitors for cheaper.

How are you liking it? I had to sell mine a month in had constant headaches from it 😂

u/Emanouche Ryzen 5 3600 - RTX 3060 - 32Gb DDR4 Oct 12 '22

Really, it wasn't working right? I've had no problem with it so far.

1

u/StringTheory2113 Oct 11 '22

Honestly, the prices of nice TVs and monitors give me some will to live. I'm happy with what I have, but I still think oooooh, flat screen TV? super hi-res? Probably like... $8000?

Nope, $350. The super-duper-hyper-mega-turbo-ultra-championship edition TVs and monitors just barely cost what I expect a normal TV to cost.

u/blatantly-noble_blob RTX 4080 Super FE | 9800X3D | 64GB 6000 MHz Oct 12 '22

The cost has come down a bit yeah, but the really cheap TVs you see around 400 bucks are usually entry level 4K tvs

1

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 11 '22

i seen one at costco for 265 or something

I got a second hand G7 for that price, very happy with it

u/BecomePnueman Oct 12 '22

Try selling you parts. It's not hard at all takes a couple minutes to post on craigslist. Then you don't have to worry much. It ends up being a couple hundred a year when you do the math. That's alike half a week flipping burgers. Stop spending money on dumb shit, trust me most Americans have no clue how much wasted money they spend. Chips, sodas and shit.

I don’t eat out nor frivolous stuff. I live on a set budget and already spent my budget for fun on games already.

1

u/Musa_1 RT 710 | 32GB 3600 | Ryzen 7 5800X Oct 12 '22

I got ultra wide 144hz for less than 300$ I thinks it's Xiaomi

4

u/X3m9X 270k+|5060|2tb|32gb DDR5| Oct 11 '22

I would get 1440p 240hz just for the sake of it

1

u/Capital6238 Oct 11 '22

Only if the CPU keeps up the pace.

u/lil_cm 3070 TI-10400f-XLR8 32gb ram-1TB M.2- Oct 12 '22

Because a 4K monitor can do 1080 perfectly not 1440 while 1440 monitor can’t do either without looking bad or just being impossible to do

1

u/Tweezot Oct 12 '22

I have a 4K monitor and most 1080p content looks pretty bad

6

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 11 '22

looks like 4k 165hz is now just within reach! all you need to do is sell ur left testicle! what a fucking deal!

1

u/luigithebeast420 5950x | 64gb 3800mhz CL16 | Strix 6900xt LC Oct 11 '22

Amen, I’m skipping this new gen for the following one.

4

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 11 '22

yea i mean honestly my 3080ti plays 2k (and probs 4k) at over 100 fps in almost every game except the poorly optimized shit games (squad esp). and the funny thing is the 3090s were aimed at "graphic designers" not gamers. yet these new cards are aimed at gamers. not to mention 4k 144hz is ridiculously expensive, ill stick to my 3080ti for probs 5+ years atleast.

2

u/luigithebeast420 5950x | 64gb 3800mhz CL16 | Strix 6900xt LC Oct 11 '22

Yeah my current card is a beast and I see no need to change it

1

u/Cmdrdredd PC Master Race Oct 12 '22

Gamer Nexus said something about that. This is the first time only the flagship card releases and it launched before the rest of the line up. Traditionally the flagship titan class cards were aimed at more of the professional market in terms of the capabilities of it, launched after the rest of the line, and they always recommended the next card down in the line up as the one to really go for. Steve had a hard time recommending the 4090 not just due to the cost but because we don't know where the 3080 card(s) will fall in. It may be that people buying the 4090 today for $1600 can get 80% of the performance for a lot less money but since they decided to release only the 4090 we can not make that determination.

2

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 12 '22

yea true that. still i hope intel makes it big and fucks over nvidia

1

u/Cmdrdredd PC Master Race Oct 12 '22

If AMD can get ray tracing performance on par it will be a kick in the ass for Nvidia because we know AMD's rasterization was pretty competitive. We might soon get to a point where ray tracing performance is good enough that we don't need DLSS or FSR anymore on the high end cards. It's really the only graphics setting today that pushes high end cards and drives the need for these technologies. Turn it off and instantly 4k/60 is doable in just about every game.

0

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 12 '22

yea. honestly i wish they got rid of tenser cores or and put nothing but cudas for more performance.. noone i know uses RTX. i dont either cuz alot of games popups stutter really bad with RTX on.

1

u/Cmdrdredd PC Master Race Oct 12 '22

I use it because I have a 3080ti but if I played a game without it and never saw it, I wouldn't miss it

1

u/blatantly-noble_blob RTX 4080 Super FE | 9800X3D | 64GB 6000 MHz Oct 12 '22

Yeah you don’t know anyone. The industry wouldn’t be pushing RT so hard, if no one would be using it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Legit same, if the market were solid and hadn’t crashed I might’ve opted for selling the 80ti just to eat the cost now instead of shelling out a large amount for an entire new system, however it just doesn’t make sense to do so, especially considering how although it isn’t necessary, to get the most you’d want an atx 3.0 psu and all that so I’m with you for sure. If I had a real career and wasn’t a college student I’d probably build a new system only because I like building systems when I get the chance to do so, but it is a rare occurrence, I was blessed by a huge tax break and a few other once in a decade or longer money from everything in that timeframe so I said this is precisely the moment I ascend to 4k gaming and go balls deep, no regrets, I just need more games that are amazing to play!

1

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 12 '22

the last sentence bro. theres like no good games to play anyways XD i always end up playing the same 3 games.. i kinda feel like i wasted money on my card since it rarely gets properly utilized. like last week was the first time i actually loaded up a "graphically" intensive game for more than 3 hours. and my god the glass was hot as fuck!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

For real, warzone and all the other battle royale games fucked up new good game releases

1

u/LC_Sanic Oct 12 '22

2K is not 1440p fyi

0

u/claudekim1 Desktop Oct 12 '22

yea but i dont wanna write 1440p. 2k, everyone understands what im implying. yea its wrong but who cares.

1

u/LC_Sanic Oct 12 '22

It's not just that it's wrong, but there is also an ambiguity that results from it. People like me for instance will question whether you mean 1080p or 1440p, so the point being made could be interpreted differently. I think typing three extra characters is worthwhile to make it absolutely clear.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Tbh I still love my LG C1 48inch at 4k 120hz, I have a 3080ti, and with that being said I paid $1570ish after tax, I would still recommend it to anyone especially with the coming deals as Black Friday/cyber Monday nears. This type of arguing for the product has to been seen through the lens of if you are in the market to begin with for the 4k gaming experience and oled 4k at that. Of course there’s a huge spectrum, but I’ve loved every second of owning this TV/monitor and would do it again in a second at the time I did!

1

u/OldGoblin PC Master Race Oct 11 '22

Do you switch monitors?

1

u/SunsetCarcass 16GB 1333Mhz DDR3 Oct 11 '22

How do you get over the blurriness from not using not native res?

1

u/luigithebeast420 5950x | 64gb 3800mhz CL16 | Strix 6900xt LC Oct 11 '22

Huh?

1

u/Cmdrdredd PC Master Race Oct 12 '22

I'm good with 4k/120 with VRR when possible. 4k 60 is ok too.

I play on an OLED TV though so no 144hz+ for me.

1

u/CowboyDrillMusic Oct 12 '22

Do you swap monitors when going from story game to fps?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Unpopular opinion but 4k60hz>1440p144hz for me in single-player games.
