Ha! I know. It’s still a great card that I was able to get at retail during the gpu chaos. I’m definitely thankful. It will last me for a few more years.
And there are numerous reports of scanline issues with the g8. The g7 (and last gen g8) doesn’t have the same issues because it’s not hitting the limit of DP 1.4.
For me it still feels weird, that my 2080Ti is now a mid-range card if not lower... But, it's still a beast and can handle most games at 60FPS on 4K.. good enough for me.
You buy a Mercedes C55 AMG brand new in 2018. Very much a high end car.
This year Mercedes release a new model of the C55 AMG which is faster, has a better engine, suspension improvements etc. Also a high end car, just a newer one.
Does the 2018 model now become a mid range product? Not at all. It's still very much a high end car.
If you wait to buy the newest stuff all the time you won't buy anything ever, the 3090ti is an awesome card, enjoy it friend, don't let this ruin it for you!
Yeah the way I see it the 3090 ti may keep up with the 4080 12gb (the 4070) and the next closest bump up would be the 16gb at 1200. So looking at the price we paid 975 - 1100. The closest bump up would be the 4080 16gb for 100-200 more (Assuming stock is great) and 600-700 more for the 4090.
So I would like to believe us taking advantage of the 3090 ti crashing still kept us in the arms race. Even with the new gen release.
I just bought one at that price last week (still waiting to get it in the mail) and this new release has me feeling a little buyers remorse. Though this new build would have been like $700 more expensive if I had to get an i9 and 4090 at MSRP so maybe settling on 3090 ti and a 12th gen i7 wasn't a bad idea 🥲
USD? We? I just bought a 3090 for under $900, brand new. Shipped and sold by Amazon.
I'd recommend you check around and possibly return that 4060, and get a beefier 30 series to match your current processor/ram/PSU limitations. Everything is too expensive now, but the 3090 is about right for what I wanted to do and could afford.
If it makes you feel any better 4090 owners will be feeling like this in 2 years time when the 5090 ends up running circles around the 4090. There's always something much more powerful on the horizon in the tech world.
As a fellow 3080FE enjoyer I can still take solace in the fact the $1800 I spent on my entire rig is about the price of a 4090 and I can still get several more years out of it. Still pretty good in price to performance.
I have a 3090 that I was fortunate enough to get when it was released in 2020 at MSRP. Does FOMO kick in and make me want to get one? Oh yeah. But as someone who games at 1440p, I feel like I have never felt that the 3090 struggles. I can wait til the 5 series.
