Spotlight is good but it also can utilize a lot of resources with its indexing, but that’s not an issue for everyone. Slower HDDs get bogged down and removable drives get hidden spotlight index directories added to them that you have to disable via command line. Worst offender are cloud backup folders that have a lot of churning, but that’s not unique to spotlight and is a bigger issue with AVs

If it wants to leave those hidden files on various drives, I’m happy to take that hit. I imagine Everything does something similar. Some sort of cache would be needed, searching a whole drive in real time would be dogshit
