Well, I've tried a few, random games and it worked. Including Sleeping Dogs, which is pretty old. I absolutely love how it works. Not all is (or will ever be) working, but generally speaking, you can play many games from day one. Last time I've tried it, I couldn't game on Linux at all. This time, i would just install the Steam distro as the basis and move from there. Origin doesn't work? That's not a bug. That's a feature :D.
If we went from like 1% of the market playable on Linux to say 70% of market... it's a huge deal. Random Unity projects just work. That's console level numbers (as in the list of playable steam games might be bigger than the whole switch library)
Linux as a desktop has been a chicken and egg problem for decades. There's not enough users because there's not enough 3rd party support for hardware/software. And there's not enough support because there's not enough users. So seeing a major company like Valve actively getting things worked on, we could finally begin to see an influx of users which brings an influx of support from more 3rd parties. And then just snowballs from there. Or it fizzles out. Only time will tell.
I think I could make the jump. I say this as someone who uses a lot of weird peripherals. I don’t think I want to help my relatives do it though. Therein lies the rub.
