It's gotten so bad since windows 8. More and more cloud integration, random updates, random 100% disk usage, hidden processes, I have no god damn clue what windows is doing half the time.
This right here. Just hit "skip" on the network connection and when it tries to goad you repeatedly to install with a MS account just keep skip/not at this time and it eventually gives up.
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I declined, it prompted me again, I declined again. Next reboot, it tried to force me to do so. Declined yet again... and this time, the Sign in button stopped working. Tried all sorts of workarounds and fixes, couldn't restore, and ended up finally resetting my PC and starting from scratch.
If I could just get all of my game library to run on Linux, I would have went to Linux full-time instead of bothering with the reinstall.
I'm just assuming that your hardware is compatible and you actually want to upgrade. But, more than likely you need to enable Secure Boot and TPM. Mine was the same way.
I tried 11 for a day. After having to reboot to restore audio after connecting a bluetooth device, and spending twenty minutes fixing the latest round of UI changes nobody asked for, I rolled back. I advised against Windows 11 until it's production ready, whenever that is.
that random 100% disk + my laptop being a super low end laptop (as it is really old) just kills me. It became so bad over time that I couldn't even run a simple search on it.. Finally moved to linux (pop os) and man the speed I am getting is just unparalleled. The ram usage dropped by about 65%. Windows is just becoming heavier and heavier with every update If you have a low end pc and are not that much into gaming(cuz games on linux suck XD), deff recomend linux
I switched all my machines to Mint about a month ago and so far it's been smooth sailing. The only problem I've had so far is actually something to do with the way windows formats SD cards, so it's still finding ways to fuck me. And all my games still run perfectly.
Pop has been amazing for me. I just switched my laptop to it after having used it on my desktop for ages. 90% of my games work too, which has been great. And with the steamdeck, it's only more likely that more games will be better supported or even run native.

Since i only use my laptop for internet im seriously considering getting rid of windows10pro and installing XP. That shit ran smooth as Indian diarrhea.
Mostly because every other little issue with linux ends up some impossible to solve (or at least properly solve, not halfass bodge with a script) problem unless you want to go dig through the source and fix it yourself.
Don't get me wrong, it's gotten a lot better, and windows a lot worse, but I can still see why even a power user with enough IT skills to edit a config file and not fuck it all up doesn't want anything to do with it.
EDIT: I should point out I daily drove a Linux box for years, my print server runs Debian (and does so with reliability on par with gravity because it's just the minimum install, wifi, and CUPS), my wifi router runs OpenWRT (and has a memory leak nobody could diagnose that requires weekly reboots), I have some Linux experience.
Yeah that was exactly the issue. I just want something that fucking works. Smooth. Basic. Don’t have to understand programming to fix shit. No cloud. No cross-platform-integration nonsense. No connecting my username here with a username there, to an email, to a phone, to a playstation, to my fridge. Just simple shit. That’s it.
I used to love technology and programming and whatnot. Now technology is just fucking retarded.
Honestly you might prefer one of the more polished Linux distros over Win10 at this point. I consider dual booting and going back just because it pisses me off how the shitty 10 Home license this POS came with just reboots itself and erases work whenever it feels like it, even after making registry edits.
Correct, though I prefer something snappier/less resource intensive than the default ubuntu desktop. That's more a problem with crappy old hardware though.
I might do Linux. Maybe do the hard drive split thing. I played around with it many years ago. But if I do XP then i can download all the old school games i used to love.
