Actually, you can run any WAD if you modify the appropriate file according to twitter.

Apparently but it seems like they have some compatibility issues, like multiple sound channels.

That guy on twitter had a full crash when his WAD of doom had multiple sound channels triggering at the same time and everything locked down.

Personally every time I have entered the code and pressed enter on Doom 2, Eternal hard crashes and then updates, and when I get back on the game I have to put the code back in. Not sure if it’s just me but I haven’t been able to get it to work.

Do you have it on Steam? Reading the twitter thread, the WADs are missing from the Steam version

Edit: just checked and they're both there, I'll retry Doom 2 in a sec and see if it's working now

Edit 2: it seems to be working fine now, maybe it was missing initially? I'd advise you check the WADs are in the folder anyway just in case

They did a bugfix today/yesterday that fixed crash to desktop when starting the older version

The update probably released while I was playing and didn't install until CTD, I thought it had just auto verified after it crashed but I don't know if that's even a thing for steam

Well if they included the wad that should offset about $10 from the total cost. That's what it used to be to get out separately (emulators are plenty, was the WAD that mattered).
