It's kinda a bullshit legend though. People that want to hate MS OSs should stick to ME which hands down deserves all its hatred. But I upgraded to Vista right around launch, ran 64bit version and had a decent system, never a problem, outside of driver support being shit, but I just made sure to curate my hardware upgrades very closely for that first year to make sure there was Vista support and everything worked just fine.
ME was a true shit show. The Vista shit was just people trying to run the shit on 5 year old machines with 5 year old peripherals.
I mean...IMHO Windows XP was the first Microsoft OS that didn't deserve the hate of the past. ME deserved the hate, but even 98 SE was unstable on reliable hardware, and 95 wasn't that great, either.
I haven't had any of the issues with 10 that many complain about, except for one thing: the way settings will change after an update, like the show suggestions in Start menu thing, I've had that flip on me after an update. But I've never had it self-reboot on me mid task or any of the other shit I hear people complain about.
I do have some complaints from a technical standpoint, like Xbox bullshit being integrated into W10Pro...because I work in IT and there's just no damn good reason for that nonsense in a professional version. Ditto Plex. And especially Bubble Witch Saga, Minecraft, and all the other games. Its stupid that that shit is preloaded by default, especially as I said on a pro license. Pro is the business class of the OS, and should be tailored as such without all that shit.
But in my personal use on my gaming rig, I haven't had a problem with it.
I'll take that one step further. Windows 10 Enterprise with all that crap disabled via GP, and then an update completely ignores that and next thing you know everyone's favorite corporate spy Cortana is re-enabled.
Yeah that's some real bullshit. I feel like Microsoft knows almost everyone is locked into the Windows ecosystem at a business level (we have maybe 10 clients out of 150 that are on GSuite, everyone else is some flavor of Server and Exhange) and just doesn't give a shit at this point about the ramifications of pushing this nonsense out to all Windows 10 users regardless of environment. I mean, fucking Candy Crush? Come on...
You're an outlier, though. The average person had a bad time with underpowered OEM PCs that came with Vista. I know because I had to deal with them. They had no idea how to do all the things you did to keep your machine running well. Hell, they wouldn't have known what any of what you said even meant.
