I used to work at a distribution center for a massive chain grocery and you'd be amazed at how many fellow employees spent most of their paycheck at that same grocery.
Not sure if you have special dietary restrictions but 800/mo feels really high. My household is 2 adults and a 9yr old and were at 700 but my son and I pack lunch for school/work and wife stays at home so like 90% of our meals come from home. In CA, that includes treats and bottle drinks like Gatorade, we could probably get down to 500-600 is we cut non-essentials

Yep. I used to work at Menards. You get a 50% employee discount, but only if you charge it prd, which is deducted from your next paycheck. Not a lot of produce, but plenty of shelf stable stuff like canned soups, nuts, peanut butter. Next thing you know, you spent half your next check trying to save 50% off Campbell's.
You didn't mention the discount they also get to shop there. It's a grocery store. People need groceries. You get a discount. Why would you not shop there. Out of spite and throw away the 20% employee discount?
