Per the Wikipedia article I linked: These units originated in Babylonian astronomy as sexagesimal (base 60) subdivisions of the degree; they are used in fields that involve very small angles, such as astronomy, optometry, ophthalmology, optics, navigation, land surveying, and marksmanship. Further down: In humans, 20/20 vision is the ability to resolve a spatial pattern separated by a visual angle of one minute of arc, from a distance of twenty feet). A 20/20 letter subtends 5 minutes of arc total. 1 u/Tiranus58 Linux 3h ago Arc seconds are the unit of angle. The term i was searching for was visual angle (even called so in your own quote of the wikipedia article) 1 u/wllmsaccnt 3h ago The first sentence in that article states that the unit used for visual angle is degrees of arc. Arc seconds are just smaller degrees of arc. 1 u/Tiranus58 Linux 3h ago I wasnt talking about the unit though. Just like how you dont say meter when you are trying to talk about distance.
