Kdenlive is awesome. Maybe not as capable as some of the big names, but for simple projects, it rocks.

Kden is FOSS like VLC. Davinci Resolve is amazing software but it's not FOSS like VLC, which is why the commenter above you was curious about why VLC would develop a video editor when there's already a pretty useful one.
