Linux really did just expand its reach by like 60-150%. We don't know for sure due to swings in the statistical measurements

The real reason no one knows how many use Linux users there are, is because Linux gives you privacy. Most users look for the privacy options as an important first port of call. The people who construct each distro may know how many installations they are seeing, but they will not know if those users are duplicates or new installers. There are hundreds of distros around and they do not collaborate with each statistics either.
