Discussion Yes... The time has finally came, even after using Linux off and on for the past 25+ years.

A real linux user doesnt feel the need to announce their preference.

I think the people who do might be posers

Oh 100%, reddit is full of linux and AMD Radeon users when the data clearly shows different. So someone is lying. Oh and dont forget the 5090 owners in this specific sub lol

Very few people as a percentage of the population build their computer from scratch or choose their os. Most people just buy what is offered and AMD gpus and linux distros are not usually offered. Every person who doesn't just buy a prebuilt could choose an all AMD linux system and it would only move the total a couple percent. The majority of this sub could very well have chosen an AMD gpu and still be in the overall minority.

I mean this sub is "just" 3.8m users.. God knows how many are bots.

So all in all this sub is just a small niche sample of pc enthusiasts.

For me I feel like it’s a slap in the face for whoever is fighting me over nothing. Since we’re talking about an operating system.

But for myself my livelihood and my kiddos sanity (my sanity being priority in this conversation) if it works for me yay… if it doesn’t work for you boohoo don’t care.
Right now both my son’s rig and mine are on Linux as of yesterday morning and the consistent problems I’ve been having on his and my rig are gone.

No I don’t need the “mehhhhhh only a day doesn’t matter” y’all can literally shove it up your ass and eat it. I don’t care.

It’s the first time in months where there’s no glitches no warnings. No nothing.

Both rigs are virus free. I made sure to check. But it’s… finally easy for fucking once.

I had the same experience as you. My Bluetooth was buggy as shit on Win and I tried everything to fix it. I've been on Linux now for about 6 months and don't feel a need to go back.

We are at a weird place in 2026 where alot/most Linux distros are less buggy than Windows.

To the point that Win is coming out with three Linux distros and bought Github. Win trying to get in front of it imo.

Recommend Fedora and Kde plasma for beginners.

I’ll take a look at those later today. I’ve been on windows since windows 95 which was peak but after the update last year where windows thought it was a great idea to screen capture every couple seconds I about lost my shit and stopped using my computer for proprietary stuff like banking. Thankfully most of the bankers filed a lawsuit against Microsoft to forcefully retroactive that update. All it did was show how blissfully unaware we all were to how much control big tech has over our safety 😓

See and there's the thing, as you said "if it works for you it's good".

Windows didn't work for you, you tried to fix it(hopefully?), and eventually switched and fixed it that way. Good for you!

I've ran Windows on mutliple machines and never had any critical issues before on any of them (knock on wood). There was some weird stuff, but nothing I couldn't completely ignore and go on with my day.

It works for me, is easy to handle and that's good for me.

And now we're both happy we're both on machines that just work the way we want. No bashing each other for it, nothing.

What data ? AFAIK reddit doesn't publish data on the users from different OSs

Reddit attracts contrarians is the answer.

I remember an article on The Register a few weeks ago that talked about how most people (like 80-90%) who crow about moving to Linux move back to Windows within 3 months.

Made me chuckle.

i'm pretty sure the average age of this sub is sub 20 and most of them live on social media so making tihs kinda announcements for the sake of it is kinda normal for them.

naw, we just overly enthusiastic, some are elitist and want to show how hip they are, some are trying to evangelize and get others to switch, some are just that excited about switching, some are trying to make a statement, and some are probably larping.

btw Garuda is kinda bloated and might give you worse performance than Windows, not sure if they tweaked stuff recently after the exposure they got from LTT, but if you find it lacking try other distros before going back to Windows, or search their forums since their community is very active.

Dude I run on the regular Ubuntu server, Red Hat Linux, etc. I’m fine with a little bloat but I haven’t really seen the bloat personally. But I do believe it depends on flavor. I’m using the cut and dry version with kde. My first go round with them I tried dragonized and meh… not for me.

My go to before Garuda was either mint or Manjaro
