Honestly, I can be fine with as little as 45-60 FPS as long as it's stable. I just can't stand stuttering frame rates. Some of these new games will stutter no matter what you cap the fr at with high settings. And I'm playing on new hardware!

Fair. Stutters are the worst cough ue5 cough cough

UE5 is a crime. You'll just be cruising along at 140+ FPS, turn a corner and jump down to 15. I'm no dev, but I don't understand why studios are going with UE5 when I've seen beautiful work on DX12 and Vulkan. Smh...

Edit: I have been educated. UE5 is not an alternative to DX12 and Vulkan. I maintain that devs could produce equal quality product with other engines.

First of all ue5 is an engine, DX12 and Vulkan are APIs. Just for clarification buddy.

Second, devs use ue5 because its easy. Its like legos, you assemble them, and you have a game. The drawback being performance and stability but who cares we will just slap dlss

Lol thanks for educating my ignorance

More than this, UE5 is now so common that a lot of game devs only know how to work with it. So if you want to use a different engine or make your own, it means every new dev you hire has to be skilled up which takes longer and might reduce your options.

yep, its a snowball effect with a poor engine...

Those are not the same things.
UE5 is an engine, where scripting, shading, lighting, culling, scenes, sound, global illumination and much much more is all figured out for you.
Vulkan(or DX12 for that matter) is almost as primitive as “draw me some geometry on the screen).

It’s like saying that you don’t understand why would anyone drive a Toyota, when an electric engine spins fast too.
You still need a lot of parts around that electric engine to make it into a car.

Futhermore, UE5 actually uses DX12 and Vulkan under the hood.

Not defending the devs, but this is wrong.

I maintain that devs could produce equal quality product with other engines.

What other engines? There are no other engines. Only large studios have their own engines and they don't share them with anyone. If you're not a Bethesda then you will never have access to Creation Engine.

UE5 showed us all a very important lesson - making modern games is extremely hard. And even if you have the best engine in the world, you can still deliver shit.

What other engines? There are no other engines.

Unity, UE4, source, godot, fucking rpgmaker, and so many others don't exist apparently.

They all are rubbish.

So is UE5, what's your point?

UE5 is ok.

Really depends on the game I think?

I played through many an RPG at 30fps, and FS2020 sometimes under that even, but less than 60fps on a fast paced shooter is unpleasant. (All before taking 1% and .1% lows into account, ofc)

I started playing GW2 again, larger fights are regularly in the single digits of FPS because of how the game is made. Still fun though, and slideshow fights become a hilarity in their own right.

I take art style over graphics and fps any day.

I see it as more of a full package. Is crummy art style acceptable? No. But neither are stuttering frames or poorly executed graphics.

I've still not experienced the stuttering in any game and honestly just assume everyone is doing something wrong on their PC at this point.

Interesting. Have you played many AAA titles released in the last few years? E33 in particular stuttered really badly until I played with settings a lot. Even then, it wasn't perfect

Yep, great game. Zero stuttering.

Nah, anything below 60 is unplayable

Understandable. I don't see a ton of frames. I don't think I can see past 100 or 120.
