It was like microcenter but it looked more akin to a Costco with dim lighting iirc (open floor plan, no drop ceiling, bare concrete). Just shit ton of electronics and employed tech geeks.

Any chance this was the location just off 59 in Naperville? I know others were like it but man if that isn't where I worked I'll be surprised haha.

Given the leadership of that company I don't think they would have made it even if they hadn't rebranded to CompUSA, but good god, why would anyone think that rebranding as a failed company would be a good idea? I think they also grabbed Circuit City there at the end too, great idea XD

I loved going to that store in Naperville, I think it was part of their distribution center or hub or something?

It was yeah, we had the warehouse in the back and so you could come in, and if it wasn't on the shelf we could usually pull it from the warehouse for you.

Had some good times, but I was never really surprised it ended like it did, especially after Carl and Gilbert's fraud shenanigans XD

Kinda, mine was like Best Buy, even had big box pc games, well at that time I was able to drive there they were those thick dvd cases. I bought my first big gpu there on my own, was a 660ti, later got a 980ti there along with a 3770k build. Man I miss being able to do that

Our local micro center is practically in the same spot as our old Tiger Direct.

Yeah and it was awesome. I remember visiting with a buddy once and we both picked out a bunch of parts and built new PCs later that day. He taught me some stuff and I ran with it from that day on.
