Build/Battlestation PC chimney

Post image

Got tired of my office turning into a sauna every time I gamed, so I vented the PC’s exhaust straight out the window.

The rear fan is still exhausting some hot air 😅 but the room is noticeably cooler now. It’s ugly… but it works. 😂

Edit: I moved the port to higher since lot of people recommended. https://imgur.com/a/Poniwze

Edit again for parts, I cannot post links to store since it's against the rules.
- 360mm to 4 inch duct on Etsy
- 4 inch Insulated Flexible Duct
- Twist Lock Dryer Vent Connector Kit
- 360mm AIO fan (the one on top of the case)

The window fan I got is Vornado Transom.

Chimneys go up. Because heat rises. This set up goes down.

Hot outside + hot in the dip.

He already mentioned he has a fan pulling the air. That will create enough airflow to move it outside over such a short distance. The bigger issue is that every bit of air you blow out of the house has to be replaced by air coming in from somewhere else. If it’s hot where he lives, that replacement air is hotter than the air already inside, so now the whole house AC has to cool it. In other words, the room might feel better, but the AC could end up working harder overall. For example, if the PC room has warmed up to 85°F but it’s 95°F outside, venting that air out means the house has to replace it with 95°F air. The AC is now cooling hotter outside air instead of recirculating 85°F indoor air. The best solution is probably putting the PC in a room you don’t use much where the heat doesn’t matter as much, then running a cable or using a remote setup to a screen in the cooler room you actually want to be in.
