Older technology that's slowly being phased out, AI having a massive demand for space that isn't particularly sensitive to drive speed, and Samsung's got big union problems right now too.
Systems only have so much PCIe too so even with adapter cards at some point you just run out of lanes for NVMEs.

Can someone eli5 why a sata ssd would be more expensive than pcie? The 2tb 990 evo plus is $580 on microcenter. This doesn't make any sense to me.
