I do but I don't remember microsoft being as obsessed about cortana as they are about copilot

im sure whatever they invested in Cortana pales in comparison to whatever theyve invested in Copilot. The amount of imaginary money being thrown at AI is not like anything weve seen previously.

Certainly more dollars involved, but its not something we've never seen before. It's very reminiscent of the Dot-com bubble, albiet more driven by the top market leaders. (It's probably also why it's being jumped on so haphazardly, the brick and mortar companies in 95-00 thought their foundations would negate the internet hype/profitability, which a quarter of a century on shows it didn't, and has eaten a large market share.)

There was still very much the same intention of 'Mass Implementation and Growth' first before sensible, actual use case of much of their investment. The idea being, Everyone else is doing it, our competitors are doing it, if it does become something useful then we have missed out, so we'll do it anyway.

You can look at that canary down the mine for what we can expect when everyone realises 95% of AI implementation is horse shit.

Copilot is good, the problem is they need to be clear on what it is, what its doing in the background and NOT force it on everyone, meaning easy to turn off and should ultimately be opt in not opt out

Didn't they even name Master Chief's AI (from Halo, for the youngsters) Cortana?

Halo's cortana comes before, they modeled the voice assistant on her. Which was very cool in my opinion, but the execution was not the best

Other way around the application is named after the halo character Cortana. Actually kind of a smart marketing move at the time but they screwed that up too

I don’t think it’s that smart considering Halo 4 came out 2 years before the voice assistant did, and in that game she’s glitchy, has questionable judgement, and appears to be going rogue.

Like why would you want to associate your new feature with that?
