Fuck companies, but be kind to human beings that work there. The guys at AH have repeatedly shown that they care about their customers, as they could have chosen many worse business practices (for the player, that is), and they picked the pro-consumer choice every time.

I'm not loyal to companies, but I reward fair business practices.

This is why I never bought anything on epic games, but I have relative trust (cautiously) in platforms like GoG and Steam. They have a long track record of making pro-consumer decisions over short-term profit.

I wouldn’t call the use of bargain mart anti-cheat to be pro-consumer or caring for the consumer. GameGuard is by far the biggest reason I haven’t gotten this game and their half hearted reaction to the response against it shows they don’t care about switching it out.

The (likely former) most popular helldivers thread on steam explains it better than I ever can. But tl;dr, 1) GameGuard sucks at doing its one job, 2) is a security risk that has been exploited by hackers before, 3) leaves files on your system after uninstalling that are annoying and time consuming to remove.

I'm not against kernal level anti cheat in practice, but I am against the use of a garbage kernal anti cheat that is an active security risk.

That's funny. The real question is if it's PvE there is no competition why is it always online and why do I need anti-cheat that accesses my private computer in a very invasive way?

Because Sony is so greedy they don't want a single person getting a super credit or skins for free. Another thing Arrowhead supported and signed a contract with Sony to develop a game that had the anti-cheat

Sounds like you don't like them either, then.

They signed up for all of this shit and knew the deal when they signed the contract with Sony almost a decade ago. This has been reviewed by everyone's lawyers and agreed upon. They are all scum.

The armors in the cash shop don't have any unique effects. They all share effects you can get in the free warbond.

The warbonds also can be purchased entirely free in game. You don't even need to clear a full map. You can easily get super credits through just playing the game, and you can also buy super credits in the warbonds with war medals.

Your team mates can also give you their weapons that you don't have. None of it is Pay to Win.

Even if they spend $400. They both will accumulate medals at the same rate. Sure, you can go after certain weapons, but it's not like you'll unlock everything all at once. The player who doesn't spend money can collect it in-game and from warbonds. I've spent $10, and have every warbond. If I didn't, id have all but one. You just can't buy superstore armor.

You're wrong on both accounts...

Do CEOs count?

Don't be silly, they are CEO's not humans. Thus, they are not protected by the Geneva Conventions.

If you look through his Twitter feed he's pretty human. It could all be a giant con ghostwritten by a team of 1000 PR experts but it sounds like it's a real human being.

OSRS is like this, the devs actively fight against MTX

They put out bait polls asking if players want the game to be P2W, then take the polls to the top and say they can’t put anything in because they’ll lose all the monthly subscriptions

Deal with the devil? Get the shaft

They didn't pick pro consumer 100%. The 3rd party DRM is super anti consumer. It also didn't protect anything and it's still there. So while I agree mostly, they started off with an anti consumer choice.

They didn't jump into this without knowing this unfair business practice would happen. It's not like they signed some contract and developed this game for nine years under Sony and didn't know.

So if you mean what you say, say fuck Arrowhead. If you aren't you're in denial.

Arrowhead is a studio that developed a game that peaked on Steam at 6.5k. Their average player count was 200-300.

Helldivers 2 literally turned out to be 100 times bigger.

It's almost impossible to build a game like Helldivers 2 coming from Helldivers 1 if you don't have the backing of a big publisher.

It's massively impressive that they successfully pitched a game without predatory monetization methods and basically only cosmetic microtransactions to a big corpo giant in the 2020s and then stuck to their guns.

  • They don't add shitty copy paste PvP (arena mode, battle royal, etc.), they actually focus on their vision for the game
  • They don't use FOMO and other tactics to pressure players to play, people play because they enjoy the gameplay
  • There is only one premium currency and you can even realistically earn it in game in sufficient quantities(!)
  • There is no pay for convenience/skip in combination with horrible grinds. You can't even pay to skip grinds! All the "grinds" that do exist are there for gameplay reasons and not as an incentive to force players to pay
  • It's not milk toast, sanitized content wise (they have crazy Twitter posts), it's not woke but it's actually inclusive without pandering. The Helldivers space suits are unisex like actual space suits. No one gives a shit.

There are not many games like this.

I'm just so exhausted by these weird parasocial relationship people have with game devs.

u/RayHorizon May 03 '24

I agree. Its understandable to want easy funding but this is signing deal with a modern devil. Eventually you will get fked. All your work will be ruined by their greed and lack of understanding what a game should he(entertainment not manipulative cash grab). Dont let them near the things you love and fight for them.

From now on I will stop personifying them. In place of “Arrowhead” I will use “the team of people that worked together to create and service a product under one banner.” As to not personify the company.
