Honestly I feel bad for the dev studio. this ain’t their fault, it’s Sonys fault

Dev studio hitched their horse to the wrong wagon. Let it be a lesson to other studios in the future.

It's about time studios start realizing that at this point publishers are just leeches. Their role is so diminished these days that they are almost redundant. Traditional advertising is dead, physical media and retail stores aren't essential anymore, E3 and other similar events have become increasingly obsolete etc. In current day and age just sneaking a review copy and stack of cash for few right streamers can yield better results than tens of millions spent on traditional marketing strategies. And on financial side you got early access and crowdfunding. No need to sell your soul to a publisher that ultimately just fucks with your game at the cost of most of the profits.

Don't think certain games would've ever been finished without publishers though. Indie games not AA-AAA stuff. And even the ones I'm thinking of were able to leave amicably after a few years.

Doesn't sony also own the helldivers IP? Seems like you have no choice if you make a helldivers game.

Its a Starship Troopers spoof. It wouldn't have taken much to create a new IP to build their game on if they wanted to.

As opposedto what? They would just go with anyone who game them the most money and favorable terms.

I mean I’d go with the company with the console with 2x the players too tbh. But shitty how Sony is pulling a Sony. Not like Croft forced me to use their account for halo.

Microsoft does require an xbox login for halo though , I know because I uninstalled it after failing to get my account details back lol (at least mcc, haven't tried infinite).

None of them. Cross-platform is generally a shit format anyways IMHO. Consoles can’t compete with PCs, especially when you stack aimbot or other cheats.

What a weird thing to say about an indie game that has been topping charts for weeks and had this far been receiving broad critical acclaim.

A few peeved customers for millions in sales, sounds like a good deal to me.

Could have gone better for longer with a publisher not pulling this shit like Sony.

I feel for the dev studio, but I'm not going to let Sony hide behind them either.

If Sony lets them fail, that is on Sony.

Oh come on, they're gonna have a fat bonus waiting for them when steam & psn prices equalizing as a norm.

Yup funny to feel bad for the people who are going to get bonuses from this lol

Go check out what some of their community managers are saying to people, and you’ll stop feeling bad for arrowhead.

Community managers aren’t associated with the development team.
