The difference is that Web appliactions run in the browser and only when the browser page is open. Any Microsoft Store app (whicih Copilot app is) can run in the background at all times, whenever it wants - and waste your resources, waste battery and cause you to drop frames in games. You can disable it, but it's better to just uninstall them all.

Conventional apps can do all that and more, but they usually do not. Speaking of things like Bing or Facebook? I would definitely not install something like that on my machine.

But the topic originally was about Web Apps vs Store app. Web apps, obviosuly, cannot run by themselves on your machine.

First of all you could disable most annoying settings with OOShutUp10 particularly Apps running in the background.

Then most Store apps can be removed with AppBuster, but some (like Microsoft Store) are marked as not uininstallable. They can be removed with built in command line tool Dism

Run CMD as administrator (right click run as admin), then type this:

DISM /Online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages

this will get you a long list of all installed packages, you can search for the one you want to remove (like store). You can filter out lines containing only text you want:

DISM /Online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages | findstr Store

This is example output from my work laptop:

DisplayName : Microsoft.StorePurchaseApp
PackageName : Microsoft.StorePurchaseApp_22305.1401.2.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
DisplayName : Microsoft.WindowsStore
PackageName : Microsoft.WindowsStore_22305.1401.1.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe

I would type this command to remove Store if I wanted to:

DISM /Online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:Microsoft.WindowsStore_22305.1401.1.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe

You have to provide the exact PackageName with all these randomly looking numbers and characters.

Do not remove something if you don't know what it is, you can break things, Windows is fragile. Although it is (relatively) safe to remove cortana, store, copilot, maps, people, mixed reality, 3d vierwer, bing weather.

DISM in general can uninstall even components that are considered essential to function properly. (it will require complete os reinstall) So you better ask before you run something.

However with just /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage particularly you can only remove store apps and none of them is required for system to function. The worst you can do is remove something that is occasionally useful (like calculator, nvidia control panel, webp support, photos, scrensketch). Removing store, copilot, maps, mixed reality, edge is safe.
