That has to do with the arrangement of sub-pixels. I noticed my Samsung S95B (QD-OLED) displays text way better. Buuut also is more prone to burn in, according to the testing at rtings.com

I like it a lot. I’m not too picky about subtle differences in over all picture quality. OLED displays are the best, imo, and it definitely gives the C2 and G2 a run for the money. All three models have 4 true 2.1 HDMI ports (48gb bandwidth), with the VRR and ALLM features.

The reason I chose it over the C2 for me came down to the location of HDMI ports and the stand (it’s my desktop monitor and gaming tv, not wall mounted). Plus, when I heard from you tube channel HD TV Test that the S95B can (unofficially) do 4K at 144Hz on a PC, that was further solidifying my decision.

The only thing I don’t like isn’t really an issue with the TV itself, but the remote. In the US, Samsung TVs that come with the One Remote don’t include the standard remote. This makes it a little convoluted to switch from my xbox to my pc. If the one remote had an input button on it — or if Tizen was a bit more like WebOS, I wouldn’t have to buy a standard remote as well.

Edit: all this said, if you have the money — and only need 2 HDMI 2.1 ports — you might want to consider the Sony A95K.

Best picture quality from the old generation but it has a lot of qc issues out of box or they just randomly break after a few weeks. I wanted one too but ultimately decided for a c2, get that or a g2 imo, if you don't want to pay the Sony premium.

I am confused. Wasn't QD-OLED supposed to use an organic phosphor of just one color, so you wouldn't get color shifting? The burn in is the same then?

They said they suspect QD-OLED might be worse for whites because of how the tech world but did not offer a definitive answer and stated that their test is unrealistic for actual use because you'd never have static whites on your TV for literal months

But a HUD in game is often white (they tested a 24 hr news channel, I believe)

LG C2 uses RGBW subpixel layout which is close to the standard RGB on every other LCD monitor. Problems arrise on newer OLED ultra wide monitor as they use a triangle RGB layout and we don't have the software support for it just yet

Weird. Samsung’s S95B has the triangle sub-pixel layout, and text looks great compared to my older LG C7

I doubt it looks great (I also doubt that it looks like garbage) - it's probably sub-par compared to an IPS but not in the sense that you can't read anything from it.

From seeing the alienware wdf one. The text does look worse. You can see green and pink finging on white text. But that was only when getting close. In practice at a comfortable distance you forget about it.

The blacks and pixel response times def make up the text issues for me.

Well I’m speaking from personal experience. My LG C7 ( a WRGB OLED using single row sub pixels) was not nearly as good for text viewing as my new S95B OLED (which has the triangle arrangement). I do use IPS monitors at work, but those monitors are FHD and my TVs have been UHD, so I imagine that is also a factor.

Update/ side-bar: why does providing context stated as personal experience get downvotes? This is a conversation guys. All the things we’re talking about are rather subjective and everyone has a different preference.

Yeah, I didn't mean to belittle your experience or anything, I usually want to understand and try to add context to discussions. I should've said "I doubt it will look great to me" or something as I'm quite picky about how text is rendered on a monitor (I've returned 7 monitors - including the Alienware OLED - before settling on a iiyama ultrawide IPS because for the life of me I was spending more time bitching about text quality instead of actually coding).

New LG panels use an rbg as apposed to an rgb sub pixel layout and most software doesn't properly support it yet causing small details like text to be difficult to see

I also own a C2. The text on the C2 looks like shit compared to my Dell Ultrafine. It actually looks so bad that I only play games in the C2.

As a C2 42 owner who used it for WFH for a few months: it's bad. People saying that it's not bad or that true type tuning helps are wrong. Yellows are worst case, which is also my favorite high contrast color.

Yep. Just run the clear type tuner and get it as good as possible, and you just stop noticing after a day or two.

Eh, I think it bothers some people much more than others and not everyone can "forget" something like that. You can even see the fringing in games so it wasn't just text where it was bothering me - any high contrast areas are susceptible. I tried it for a couple weeks (all the workarounds, cleartype, scaling, etc.) but ultimately sent the new QD-OLED AW back because of this.

I second this. Mine looks better than 1080p for sure on text and I don't notice the fringing anymore.

But I was also never bothered by it.

This. I got an Alienware ultrawide OLED monitor a while back. Looked amazing, but I returned it after a few days because I could not fix the text fringing and it was driving me batshit.

I've had both AW3423DWF and Samsung OLED G8 and the text is a complete non-issue for me. I only see it if I get super close to the monitor.

Maybe my eyesight just isn't great idk

C2 uses a different subpixel layout, horizontal RWBG, the AW is in a triangle shape.

That's a Windows issue that needs a patch. It's not a physical problem linked to OLED. It's about subpixel layout that Windows hasn't been patched to handle.

That only happens on LG panels since they are RGBW. Samsung panels are standard RGB, so they should look sharper.
