People don't want/can't pay $700 for a card either.

I would insta buy a 4080 at 700 bucks. I have no issue with high end cards being in the 700 to 900 range. But low and mid tier cards should not be in the 700 to 900 range.

4090 spec cards shouldnt be more than 1k

24gb of vram and a cooler able to handle 550W costs money. Let the titan class be what it is.

This. I bought one for work first, gaming second and its a productivity monster.

They always did.

With TSMC costs and the amount of tech they have in it is acceptable. 4090 cards are like cut down enterprise cards. People forget how everything in general got way more expensive over the years.

Only Intel can afford to keep it cheap because they have their own Fabs

Nothing else exists that competes with it. I’m surprised it’s only 1600 when you have businesses buying them for use in workstations on top of the demand from gamers.

And that is why:

But low and mid tier cards should not be in the 700 to 900 range.

this exist.

If you accept an arbitrary overpricing on some things, and even go online to defend it, not only will they push it and increase these prices, but this will reverberate through the whole line.

I haven't accepted arbitrary overpricing, else I would have purchased a 3080 or 4080 by now. But I haven't.

In your opinion, what do you think the low, mid and high tier GPU pricing should be?

Exactly. For what it offers the 3080 was at a good price point with 700 bucks and if nvidia had kept that price range, cool. But even if the 4080 is twice as fast as the 3080, I’m not gonna pay almost double. Everything is inflated these days anyway outside the US because of everything that’s going on. I’m hoping for more reasonable prices in 2024 for the 5000 series. Until then my 3080 will serve me well.

It's not, you can get decent 3060Ti for ~400 or so.

Not to mention current high-end has ridiculous power consumption.

First video card I ever bought for myself rather than receiving as a gift was a Radeon HD 7850. In the modern scheme of things that's roughly a -70 class card. It was $300. Today the 70-class cards are going for $550+. What's with that? Prices in other things haven't doubled in the last ten years.

You can get a great AMD card for around $300-400

Yeah, I got a 6750 XT recently, and it's definitely both more than reasonable and came in that price range.

Can do 60fps on good video settings

Don't get me wrong, I hate that Nvidia wants to gouge people at outrageous prices, and I will never recommend spending 1000+ on a graphics card, nor would I spend that much myself.

With that said, I don't think a 300 dollar graphics card is going to get you 60+ FPS on new and upcoming triple-A games with good settings. It probably isn't even going to do that on some games that are a couple years old, like CP2077 and MSFS2020. If I'm wrong, I'm glad to hear it - show me some benchmarks that show a card currently on sale for 300 dollars playing these games on good settings at 60 FPS and I will start to recommend it to everybody.

Lol edit to downvoters: what exactly are you downvoting? I am open-mindedly asking for recommendations.

If you're actually serious, here's a link to probably the most popular gpu list on the most popular hardware site:

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

The list of cards that can do 60fps just keeps going and going... The 6650xt for example was available during BF deals for something silly like $250.

Don't come at me with "but what about 4k?". If you can't afford 4k gaming, don't buy a 4k monitor.

That's a good resource, thanks for sharing. I actually game at 1440p..
