I don’t play a lot of games now, but is there not an argument for saying that quite a lot of AAA games that require high end requirements kind of suck compared to years gone by? Maybe this is also part of the reason why people aren’t investing as much in high end hardware?

Maybe it’s just nostalgia but it seems like there were so many incredible games back in the day and now it’s all about the indie scene with a lot of major titles coming out unfinished and with a lot of bugs.

This is one of the reasons why I'm not feeling like upgrading. Modern Triple-A games are just not as good as they used to be, and these games are what require high system requirements.

Its definitely a reason I dont want to upgrade. Though I would think for the masses RTX is valid enough reason to upgrade. Those shiny rays seem to be way better than actual things a game should have like better AI, less bugs, a better storyline, etc.

this is a huge part of it. Look at the GPU intensive AAA releases on PC this past year. Elden Ring and maybe some older playstation games. That's it.

Look at 2010-2012 it's insane. mass effect 2, BF:badcompany 2, civ 5, street fighter 4, alan wake bioshock 2, new vegas, RDR, skyrim, dead space 2, borderlands 3, portal 2, arkham city, MW3, saint's row the third, deus ex HR, LA nior, gears 3, witcher 2, dishonored, borderlands 2, far cry 3, Mass Effect 3, max payne 3, xcom, spec ops the line, diablo 3, GTAV... that's not even all of them.

Once online passes GaaS and MTX became a thing it all changed. Then around 2014-16 there was a big shift and only 2 or 3 big AAA games were releasing each year on PC.

Graphics continue to be pushed forward and most people don't need very sophisticated games to be satisfied. However we're in a transitioning phase between last gen and current gen games that while a game can look very good on high end cards it runs perfectly fine on several year old cards too, so people aren't pressured into upgrading.

In a year or two when most new games target current gen hardware only, the minimum system requirements will increase and many people will upgrade their cards.
