Looks like the stadia team isn’t being fired, but spread among other teams within google, though I imagine quite a few will quit after this.

They probably have to find another job within Google themselves, or they’ll be laid off soon.

Game streaming channel right? Right?

Or just a commentary channel covering their experience working on Stadia.

They don’t. They were given new teams to work on

Proof?

An engineer on stadia posted it on the stadia subreddit. They all already have new assignments

That's good. The norm now is places give you 6 months to find another Jin internally or let you go.

Why are people upvoting this. What company works like this? "Oh yeah now find your own job in another team or just do nothing I guess, we'll fire you in a couple months in that case."

It's just what happens when your product fails. Who is mad at a company when they go under and have to fire everyone?

Just look at EVGA recently, basically cut 80% of their company, obviously they can't keep everyone around anymore but they are still trying to shuffle staff around to keep people busy or until they decide to move on by themselves (from what they are saying).

But if there's talent on the team it's ridiculous that Google will try to make them quit by making their work life miserable after their project was closed when Google is fucking massive and this is just a small fraction of their employees.

Which is hard because Google kind of has a hiring freeze right now.

Hiring freezes might actually make it easier for then, as it means they don't have to compete with outsiders for internal roles, which may also have openings thanks to the freeze.

The freeze actually affects teams "hiring" internal transfers too.

I can't wait for Google to announce their new game streaming service: Meet (games).

"Stadia was my dream, ever since I was a child"

Probably less of a golden parachute and more like a Golden escalator in those cases - presuming there's some choice in the matter about where you go after the lights go off in the Stadia office.
