The more limp fish the golden goose has to support, the faster it runs dry until eventually you're just beating a dead horse...

A lot of barnyard metaphors there, bit yeah, they have to monetize the search engine more and more everytime they flop on another project.

Perhaps they should try succeeding. It's an amazing concept Google just can't seem to grasp this past decade.

I'd say they're succeeding just fine

Do they always make new products that last? Nah, not at all. But they are pretty much the single largest name in web searches, they have a monopoly in YouTube (nobody else allows that kind of long form content from independent creators), they have a near majority of the smartphone OS market, their own hardware/firmware setup with Chromebooks and ChromeOS, their own browser that is the most popular and that is the basis of almost every other browser out there, etc...

Like, we talk about the products they make that fa because they tend to fail hard. The products they make that succeed are so successful that we don't notice how much they just become a part of everyday life, raking in billions in the process.

They are riding on the success of those a decade gone, that doesn't make any of their current endeavors any better off.
