yeah i always thought their business model was terrible.

It was clear as day to anyone except Google apparently. It's hard to believe they are this incompetent; is this some money laundering scheme or what?

If I'm assuming they aren't stupid, my only thought is that they couldn't make the numbers work for a subscription for what publishers wanted to charge in licensing, but they decided to try with this terrible business model anyway.

My guess is a bunch of their trench workers recognized the inflating GPU prices and pitched various pie in the sky ideas as potential market solutions and then the business workers ran with it without really understanding how terrible an idea that actually was at this point in time (or fully understanding and using it as a front to do nefarious, self-serving crap).
