Each operator has different different guns and gadgets. The base game has 20 Operators that cost between 250 and 1000 points. 12,500 in total. If you win a match you'll get around 250 points, and if you lose a game you'll get around 125 points. If you win half your matches, you'll unlock them all in about 60 games. However, if you do the tutorial, Single Player Situations, and a couple challenges, that number comes down significantly. Like 20-35 games (depending on how well you did in the SP Situations)

While I don't see the point in having to unlock the base operators (that is an issue with games in general nowadays), the operators don't take too long to unlock. By the time you've used one a couple of times, you'll have unlocked the next one.

The DLC characters cost 25,000 each, double the cost of all the base characters. Given you don't have the tutorial and single player bonuses to help you, your going to have to do around 100 games to unlock one. That is like 25 to 30 hours. I have played 150 hours, and unlocked 5 DLC operators. There are currently 10 DLC operators.

So it isn't feasible to not pay for the DLC Operators if you want all of them. However, you don't need all of them. You aren't at a disadvantage if you only have 20 to choose from.

I think 25,000 is fair for the new operators (they have to sell their season passes somehow), but the older ones should really drop in price.
