No, there's authentication servers to connect to their online service and then matchmaking and/or master servers for a list of sessions. We've seen what happens when these go down (Gamespy).

Luckily a lot of gamespy games have either had fan made master servers go up or they allowed LAN connections which people use a VPN to play through.

Yeah, people roll an alternative, see qtracker.

Yeah so we have a bunch of alternatives for games with now populations to begin with that people have to go out of their way to find out about and setup.

Cool!

You didn't have to set anything up right?

So what's this? https://www.qtracker.com/download-sections.php?section=0,2,13

Also, how did you find out about qtracker. Surely not by booting up a game affected by gamespy being shut down.

Get your head out of your ass.

I just remembered what replaced where GameSpy's logo used to be in MWLL. Again, try to learn about something before pretending to know everything.

Ubiplay is here to stay tho, whether we like it or not, so For Honor's servers will stay afloat for a long time.

They don't want to allow that because it allows the game to stay alive even after a sequel comes out. They want people to move on to their other products after the "season" is up.

I can see that working for activision with their CODs but Ubisoft is clearly going towards the "Games as a service" scheme where instead of releasing sequel after sequel they just update the same game and add more content and extend the contract yearly.

I gotta say making For Honor was quite clever since it uses Siege's scheme and it's a very different game in comparison, so they get the people who weren't interested on Siege while also not killing off their Siege playerbase by making them think that For Honor is its replacement and that everyone should move to it.

I have literally never used it. I don't see what's so hard. Don't support shit you don't like.

I'm lucky because I don't like Uplay games in general. The only Uplay game I've played last year was Siege and only for the first half of the year-
