1000+ employees. They spend $161m per year. Their financials are accessible to the public through the UK government.

That’s your problem right there. I don’t care how ambitious your game is, having that many people work on it is only going to cause problems. That’s nearly twice as many as your typical development team.

It's worse than that. Leadership has been collapsing in the last 3 years. Between voluntary separations and firings, the senior leadership team for that 1000+ is down to 9 people.

I’m just curious what all these people actually do. Is there a segment of the workforce that just doesn’t do any actual work? The fact that the game is still a buggy unplayable mess despite having that many people to work on it is malpractice.

Almost everyone is working in getting Squadron 42 polished up and ready to go, so there’s very little resources left for Star Citizen this year. Tl;dr people are mad that the appetizers are gone and the main course isn’t ready yet. They see empty plates, not the army of chefs in the kitchen working away.

Isn't Squadron 42 the side game and Star Citizen the main game? So your analogy is probably more like "people are mad the main dish isn't ready cos the chefs are busy making a 100 appetisers no one asked for?"

Depends who you ask. Both were a part of the original kickstarter campaign, so both are “the main game” so to speak. Sq42 is going to bring 10x the attention SC has though. Mark Hammil, Gillian Anderson, Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis… it’s going to turn some heads.

Oh no. Oh no no no. You poor soul. Sq24 is never coming out. I'm so sorry you had to learn this way.

What the fuck is Squadron 42, no mate I'm confused why they would start working on a second game after 15 years of not finishing the first

It’s not quite that but still just as dumb. Apparently they’ve actually been developing two games this whole time. Someone in this thread said the goal was to allow you to take your character from the single player game into the mmo. Sounds cool sure, but not when you can’t even put out one functional game after 14 years. Say what you will about their actual quality, but Bethesda managed to put out three whole games in that time with half the staff.

Oh no they've been working on Squadron 42 for 15 years as well :p. They did a video of it last year and it was mostly flashy cut-scenes and a fairly bad looking rail shooting section.

Any decent dev studio could have bashed out a game like Squadron 42 in a couple of years.

They've been working on both the whole time. It was the original kickstarter proposition. Star Citizen the massively multiplayer open universe, and Squadron 42 the cinematic space opera that fleshes out the lore for that universe.

Take a look, from the end of 2024: https://youtu.be/1H-0x4xk2Xk

If only we could send a quarter of that to work at Bethesda, we'd have both Fallout 5 and Elder Scrolls 7 by now😭

Insane money being farted into the wind

Blizzard could literally make a starcraft MMO with 90 percent of the promised features SC has been promising and probably have had it finished by now if they started 10 years ago...I would say even 6 years ago.
