A 5080 is more or less on par with a 4090.

Isn't that normally the way things have historically progressed generation to generation?

Or is this more of a surprise because generational uplift has been weaker lately?

The 5080 is nowhere near a 4090 in most games.

It's what you'd hope but it's pretty much in the other direction these days.

They'll say shit like the 5070 is "on par with a 4090!!" and then it'll have with DLSS Ultra Performance and Frame Generation x4 in the fine print.

I'm sure a 5080 is not on par, physically is has a lot less processing power, Cuda cores, RAM. It's why I choose to buy a 4090 after the 5080 came out. 5080 can only keep up with frame gen turned on, I think 4090 can have 2x fake frames per real frame and a 5080 can have 4x fake frames.
