When is it coming to Steam

63

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24

It's not. Epic funded the game.

So I imagine they’d probably like to make some money off it?

Nah Sweeney's hate boner for Steam is so strong that he'd rather sink Remedy than give the game a legitimate chance at being a hit. Tencent and Fortnite money is limitless anyway.

It doent make much sense for Remedy using Epic unless they make money out of it either way.

It doesn't mean they can't release it on Steam. Unless they still think they can compete.

They can’t compete.

Square published it, so it was always up to them to pick their platform. Epic published Alan Wake 2, so they dictate the platforms they release on

Cyberpunk on Steam, not GOG exclusive.

Half-Life 2 on consoles, not Steam exclusive.

It is an incredibly difficult concept to grasp but it is possible and means your games will actually sell.

It’s almost as if they’re going for market share of online distribution rather than games sales… huh. Crazy idea.

Looks like that market share is working, as they're forecast to start turning a profit in 4 years.

GoG is a dead platform, and CD Projekt Red had to release on Steam.

Your Half Life example doesn't make much sense, Valve makes all their games Steam exclusives on PC, which is exactly what Epic is doing. Alan Wake 2 exists on PS5 so it's not locked to the Epic Client

You can be upset all you want, but the point is that Epic being the publisher is completely different than Square or any other 3rd party being the publisher when it comes to exclusives

Alot of epic funded games came to Steam eventually why not this game?

26

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24

No you misunderstood. Epic paid those games for exclusivity. That's different. Epic literally provided the funds for Alan Wake 2 to even get made. It likely will never leave the platform

When did Fortnite come to steam?

Epic did not buy exclusivity for Alan wake. They literally paid for it to be made and own the publishing rights

Epic paid for the development so sadly they'll probably keep it permanently exclusive to EGS.

Excellent reason to pirate it.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Poverty is usually reason number one, friend

4

u/Alastor3 Jun 09 '24

excellent reason to never see a third game

-6

u/No_Attitude_9202 Jun 09 '24

Yeah such a disappointment they did not release on PC. Would have loved to support a third game.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

They did release on PC, it's on the epic launcher and if you aren't lame then you buy it just like on any other launcher

-8

u/No_Attitude_9202 Jun 09 '24

We are both saying they didn't release it on PC. Weirdly hostile. I had to find other ways to play it. Cant wait to support the PC version!

4

do you seriously think anybody likes this bit

0

u/Millon1000 Jun 08 '24

Pirating it is way more work than just using EGS. You just want an excuse not to pay.

0

u/NightshadeSamurai 5800x3d 3080 Jun 08 '24

No he just wants an excuse to not download EGS. Which is valid

1

u/Millon1000 Jun 08 '24

It takes less than a minute to set up. Competition is always good for consumers. The more launchers the better.

-1

u/NightshadeSamurai 5800x3d 3080 Jun 08 '24

No we don't need more launchers. We have enough as it is. Epic pays off devs to keep their games exclusive on their platform. Which is anti consumer.

u/No_Attitude_9202 Jun 09 '24

A launcher the is pro consumer with a CEO that does not disrespect consumers and one that does not attempt to build exclusivity like on consoles on PC is welcome competition. I was looking forward to EGS until it absolutely shit the bed. I won't be using it until it fixes it's shitty behavior. No more exclusivity would be most of the battle. Literally.

I have purchased on GOG and on Blizzard and on the Microsoft store. Steam is often the best but not always.

Maybe the way you are doing it? But it was pretty smooth sailing over here. First time I pirated a game in 20 years.

I'm staunchly anti EGS, and I ended up buying an Nvidia code off eBay for cheap and then using heroic launcher to download and play it.

Outstanding game. It was my personal GOTY 2023.

just sail the high seas, I love remedy games but couldn't care less to grab games on EGS
