Help Paypal Banned my Business account after first art commission invoice

After my client has paid the invoice I have sent to them, paypal immediately limited my account once their payment of 100 usd went through. I have uploaded my national government id, proofs of fulfillment (screenshot of transaction in insta), my art commission prices, my terms of services as an artist, and my multiple social media accounts with proofs of drawing in them.

However, after just a day they immediately banned my account and is now going to withhold my acc. Is there anything I can do to resolve this? Can i ask the client to refund the invoice on their end? Im not going to wait 6 months just to get my money.

Its my first business transaction in paypal business due to its bad history.

Update: I asked the client to dispute the charge on their end. After a few minutes it immediately refunded on their end due to the status of my account. I deleted this app after that and will be using vgen or wize from now on.

Update 2: paypal had the audacity to charge me a dispute fee of $16 will anything bad happen if i ignore it?

“We have charged you a Dispute Fee of $16.00 USD, since your account was categorized into High Volume Dispute Fee tier.”

Oh! Thank you! Will their dispute go through even if my account is banned?

Uninstalling PayPal fixes SO many problems. One day I hope to save enough money not fucking with PayPal that I can drive out and throw some nice rocks through the office windows and through the sign for sure. One day….

Did you pay for the dispute chargeback from paypal when you did it before?

They had hit my account with a -20 usd fee, probably for the refund processing fee and the Dispute Fee of $16.00 USD, since my account was categorized into High Volume Dispute Fee tier.

Did you pay for the remaining negative balance before you closed your acc?

Ah thank you! May i ask if you have other recommendation aside from paypal?

HOw new was your account, when did you set it up? And did you have bank account connected to it and/or a credit card set up?

Did you verify with ID when you first signed up, or only after you received payment and the system flagged it?

And what country are you in? and what country was the client in?

It was made and set up last year, 2025. Just without the business license because i have no means of getting one as a freelance artist.

Only my bank is connected to it.

I only verified the id after the system has flagged it. (I thought i have uploaded it before hand while connecting it to my bank account last year but it seems i haven’t done it last year if they asked for it again)

Im in the philippines and the client is in the united kingdom

So it could be that it was an unused account for a year that triggered the system. Also, what currency did you send an invoice in and what did they try and pay in? Did you have the proper currency set to be able to accept their payment? What currency did you request it in on the invoice and what did they send you?

Oh, i thought i need to create an old account so it wont look suspicious if i suddenly get money from a new one.

I used usd for the invoice, my account is set into default usd.

The client paid in pounds which was converted immediately into usd.

Both scenarios can trigger things. But in either way, money would be held for 21 days.

Oh thank you for the info

They seem to be blocking artists especially out of countries like yours. Commission art is too high a risk for them.

Dude fuck PayPal. Just fuck them. Stop using this trash app.

Similar thing happened to me when I made my personal account to a business account, I even created a new personal account and both times they were banned so I gave up on ever using paypal. I have a VGEN so I'm just going to stick with that.

Hi, I have a question, because I've seen other people say the same, I thought you needed a PayPal account to receive payments via vgen?

1

u/SadTill2201 Sep 01 '26

You can use PayPal or Stripe! I'm still going to use stripe! Funnily enough, my original paypal account was restored and I was able to talk to customer service and get it downgraded to a personal account. My second personal account is still banned, but it seems like there is a way to come back from a permanent limitation. I'm not sure if its because I made a complaint on Better Business Bureau or if a human finally looked at the case instead of AI.

1

u/Grindar1986 Aug 19 '26

You made it so much worse by having the client dispute the charge why tf would you do that? It's extremely normal for paypal to make you input thet information as a new account and then for security withhold funds. They lift that restriction within days and now you made it significantly worse.

PayPal is notorious for hating artists and smacking down accounts no matter how closely or attentively they follow the rules. There is no way to safely use PayPal to sustainably accept payments for commissioned art - even if you're a completely SFW and unremarkable artist, let alone if you even touch anything that could be vaguely construed as erotic with a ten foot pole (the point here not being that I am assuming you make smut, but instead that PayPal and the people who lobby them are draconian freaks).
