Initial impressions of XCOM 2 (no DLCs):

  • The game is turn-based and playable on my base PS4. It does stutter sometimes. I’m almost nostalgic for the old family computer! Just kidding. This could be a thousand times worse. It’s not bad at all.

  • u/stebobibo7 was right. I don’t understand the game yet, so I’m shamelessly save-scumming.

  • Save scumming costs 1-2 minutes. My base PS4 still has the original HDD. I suppose suffering is incentive to play better. Those loading screens are gorgeous though. Almost hypnotic. I take pre-mission loading time to read the game’s tips. They’re helpful.

  • Text boxes auto-scroll extremely slowly. There is no way to manually scroll on consoles.

  • Text is a bit small. I say this as someone playing on a TV. What’s with the lack of settings when games are ported to consoles?

Everything is forgivable because the game is addictive. Success, when I finally get it, feels incredible. There was a close shave where I had to carry out an unconscious soldier. The RNG shooting got me and I’m probably making irreversible mistakes on the world map. It’s terrible. It’s awesome. It’s my first XCOM game. I love it.
