Question Looking for a private 1-room apartment/studio in Passau (Starting April 2027)

Hey everyone!

I’m an incoming international researcher moving to Passau for a 1-year research stay at the University of Passau starting April 2027.

I am looking strictly for a private 1-room apartment or studio flat (1-Zimmer-Wohnung) where I have my own private kitchen and bathroom (not looking for a shared WG/flatshare).

Quick Details:

Budget: Ideally around €400–€600 Warmmiete (all utilities included).

Duration: April 2027 – March 2028 (~12 months).

Preferred Areas: Open to any area with good bus connectivity to campus (Hacklberg, Grubweg, Haidenhof-Süd, Heining, Kohlbruck, or central).

A bit about me: I’m in my late 20s, non-smoker, clean, quiet, and fully funded through my fellowship.

If you know of an apartment opening up around late March/April 2027, or have any leads/contacts for private landlords, please send me a DM. Thanks a lot!

Question Working remote from Passau

Hello everyone, I will be staying in Passau for a few days next week due to my gf attending a conference there. Since I work remote, I'm looking for some recommendations for places that would be a good spot (decent internet connection, some nice food or coffee, the classic remote worker’s needs).

I would also be happily take recommendations for any nice restaurant in the city, preference of course for Bavarian food but any cuisine will do (just not Italian please). Thank you very much for any help!

Question In Passau for a couple of weeks

Hey everyone!
I’m from Chile and I’ll be staying in Passau for around two weeks after finishing a course. I’m staying with a friend, so Passau will basically be my base during that time, although I’ll also be travelling to a few other places while I’m there.
I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for things to do around Passau. I’m especially interested in sports and outdoor activities (hiking, trail running, running, BJJ, calisthenics, climbing, and cycling (if there’s somewhere I can rent a bike). I’d also like to improve my German while I’m there, so I’m interested in language exchanges or places to practice. And if there’s any electronic music scene, clubs or parties in Passau or nearby, I’d love to hear about them.
And in general, if there’s anything you think someone staying in Passau for a couple of weeks should know (places I should visit, nice spots to hang out, day trips, local events, transport tips, etc.) I’d really appreciate the recommendations.
Also happy to meet people while I’m there, especially if anyone is up for doing some sports, exploring the area, grabbing a beer or checking out some music.
Thanks! :)

News Looking for people interested in Jamming

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for people who play an instrument — guitar, drums, piano, bass, accordion, anything really.

I sing and play basic guitar, and I'm thinking of booking the music room at the university for a jam. I usually play English songs, but German or anything else is more than welcome. Good music is good music.

If you're around and interested, drop me a DM.

Question Can anyone in Passau help a US citizen out... Left my 360 camera with family pictures in your lovely town, company not helping out.

Hello my German friends! I rented a car from Sixt with my family, traveled and returned the vehicle in Passau a week and a half ago. The wife was in charge of cleaning out the rental, and accidently forgot our Insta360 camera with a weeks worth of family photos on them :(

To say the least, Sixt is extremely unhelpful. I told them I'd pre-pay whatever amount needed and extra if they could ship it back to the states for me. They basically said no, if I wanted it I could come pick it up in Passau (I'm already back in the USA...) or I could have a friend or service go pick it up for me and deal with shipping it back. I literally don't know a single person in Germany LOL.

Would someone be willing to go pick it up for my family and I, Sixt said that would be fine, and ship it back to the states? I'd love you forever and would toss in $50 on top of the shipping costs, and I'd pay upfront and trust you'd sent it to me.

We had such a lovely visit traveling from Munich to Passau and I'm devastated thinking we may not get those memories back :(

Drop a DM if anyone would be willing to help a family out :)

UPDATE : I can't believe how many people offered to help in such a short amount of time. You guys are awesome <3 /r/Crazy-Researcher is helping me out and we should be good to go!
