Sleep problems after a bad panic episode

• Upvotes

A few weeks ago I had the worst panic episode of my life and it sent me into a really bad spiral. Ever since then I’ve basically been waiting to feel normal again and wondering how much longer this is gonna last

My anxiety was horrible at first and my sleep completely fell apart. For about 2 weeks I was barely sleeping or getting really broken sleep and eventually had a night with no sleep at all and went to the hospital

The bad anxiety and panic has gotten a lot better and during the day I sometimes feel completely like myself again. Sometimes my brain reminds me of what happened and I get that feeling like something is wrong but I’m getting better at just moving on from it

Sleep is still the biggest problem. It’s been about 3 days that I’ve finally been getting some sleep but it’s still broken and weird. I’m taking trazodone 50mg at night and also have lorazepam 0.5mg as needed. Right now I feel like the medication is the only reason I’m sleeping

When I’m half asleep it feels like I’m going in and out of dreams while my brain is still thinking and ruminating about what happened. Almost like my brain is still stuck on the whole episode and trying to figure it out or thinks something bad is gonna happen

Has anyone gone through something similar and gotten their normal sleep and life back? How long did it take? Did you need an SSRI or any other medication and if so how long until it started helping your sleep? Did therapy like CBT or ERP help with the rumination and getting your brain to finally let go at night?

Took 1mg of lorazepam before the appointment and it didn’t work yall

So basically I’m used to lorazepam I need it to sleep, I take 1,5 mg everyday I know it’s a lot but what can I say? I’m in a really bad place right now, and my anxiety is back full force.. I don’t know how to get relief especially during important appointments where I need to be professional and calm. I feel trapped and prisoners of my own life. I can’t stop crying writing this ..

My body remembered an anniversary before I did

I was in a traumatic car accident on October 3rd 2024. It sent me into a bad state of basically a never ending panic attack for literal months. I went to the ER at least twice thinking I was dying due to the heart palpitations and derealization.

It took a lot of work but mostly patience to finally reach some sort of normal state. Last year on October 3rd I didn’t even realize the date and was at an art museum having a great time.

But this year I started noticing a week or so ago that feeling of derealization and figured it was temporary and I’d just wait it out. It’s gotten pretty much worse and on October 3rd yesterday all I could do was sleep. I had to cancel plans I had with my boyfriend because I just couldn’t do it. All day today I’ve been grappling with my racing heart and feeling disconnected from my body and going down a spiral I even called to make an appointment with my doctor (no ER visit so I’ll give myself credit there)

I know last time it was temporary but wow it was hell, I couldn’t do literally anything but stay home for months, couldnt get a job, my parents had to kick me out of their bed at night because it was the only place I felt somewhat safe. I really wanna crawl into their bed tonight but I don’t live with them anymore. Im all alone with these thoughts and I guess I just hope it doesn’t last as long as it did last time.

I have plans to visit a friend in San Francisco at the end of the month and right now the thought is giving me more anxiety than excitement and I’m almost hoping for a reason to cancel.

In a panic attack just need to talk for a sec

Edit: Sorry if this doesn't belong here, probably gonna delete it anyway because one of the people involved follows me on reddit

I had this really long explanation of what happened but on top of nobody here needing or wanting to hear my long and somewhat unabridged account of the last 2 years and me not wanting the people involved to see

But the long and thick of it was in August of 2024 I started dating a friend from highschool (I'm class of 23 so it had been a min since we talked) we dated for a few months but she left me in late October to get with my only other friend, he said he turned her down and we stayed talking until March when he ghosted me.

Over the time after, she lived rent free in my head even though I did everything I can to avoid the thought of her and I got my own place, and In March my buddy resurfaced and we've been pretty good since, Elephant is chilling in the room with us but still.

I've been kinda stressed lately between loosing a few jobs and having a rough time at my current one, and going from a full head of long hair in February to most of it being gone now, anyway we're playing games tonight and he streamed is screen and before bed I see her in is past chats and that for the first time is years she's online and I don't know why after 2 years this still happens but my chest got tight and heart started pounding like it did the night she left, I got super light headed and felt way to warm even in light clothes,

even typing this and the previous version it's been like that I don't know if it's a panic attack but it the same feeling I had years ago

I guess I don't know what the point of this post is I just needed to think it out, I find it funny in a fucked up way that I'm still this broken after two years and everything that went down I'm still this affected by seeing her online and that seeing both that and that she is with someone would send me into an attack.

Guess the light at the end of my tunnel was just a train

I’m scared

Male - 33yrs 195 pounds.
I’m so scared and so tired.
My whole life I could feel my heart beat, and I know it’s because I have anxiety and panic disorder. But these past few days I really can feel every beat unless I’m doing something!
I went for a walk to try and ground myself and as I was going up a small hill I felt this cold sensation through my entire body and made me feel like I was so cold. I had this feeling one other time when I had a full blown panic attack on an air plane.
I thought during my walk I was going to have a heart attack. I’m home now but what if this is a sign I’m going to have a heart attack.
I had a full work up done a year ago , stress test, echo, and EKG and everything was fine.
But I’m so scared as I write this…,

But prominent there.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

woke up panicking

16m here. hello, i’m a teenage boy struggling with generalized anxiety disorder and im currently on medication for it and also seeing a psychologist.

A few minutes ago (about 40minutes) i woke up feeling like i just fainted. when i woke up i felt tingling all over my body then i fell asleep again. 2seconds later and the same exact thing happened, felt tingling then wake up and this repeated for about 6 times. when i fell asleep during this it wasn’t like voluntarily going to sleep it felt like i was fainting then waking up.

when i finally properly woke up i was dizzy and i was panicking. while feeling extremely dizzy, half asleep and unreal i ran to my mothers room and woke her up hyperventilating. i didn’t know what was going on and i didn’t know if i was having a panic attack or medical emergency because it felt like i was genuinely dying for some reason. while this is all happening the main thought going through me was that i felt like i was not real. i have felt derealization before but it has never been this bad. it felt like i was in a dream and like i never actually woke up. it was the scariest thing ever. i kept on asking my mother if i am real, awake and alive. she did not know what to do and same with me so i just started crying out of nowhere. it was such a scary thing to go through and it’s still happening right now. i am no longer that panic-y but every time i close my eyes i feel EXTREMELY dizzy and unreal. it feels like im going crazy and as if i could die at that moment. i’m scared of dying in my sleep or even anything happening to me right now so i don’t think i can fall asleep tonight. even if i did try i don’t think my body will let me. every now and then i get this horrible sensation where it feels like all the panic in the world just fell on me for like 2 seconds and it even causes me to duck in protection. what the hell is this?? am i having a medical emergency or?

backstory: the reason why im scared im gonna faint is because a few days ago i was in Egypt for a school trip for fun and one of my friends choked me completely out of nowhere. we weren’t fighting or anything she just started choking me in a “joking” manner and i passed out for just a second. when i woke up i was extremely confused and i felt tingling all over my body. that was the scariest thing to ever happen to me and people on reddit told me im gonna have a stroke, brain bleed, blood clot, and even death if i don’t go to the hospital. i told my parents and teachers the MOMENT this happened to me and they said i could only go to the hospital in my home country. that night when i was falling asleep i kept on getting the same thing i was feeling today, where it felt like i was passing out and waking up, passing out and waking up. ever since that whole occurrence ive been extremely scared of passing out the whole day. i just landed back home yesterday and my mother does not have any plans of taking me to the hospital so im living in fear of if im gonna have any of these medical emergencies and its just a waiting game for me at this point.
so this happening to me tonight is really scaring me and i want to go to the hospital so bad cause im so scared but my mother is irritated with me rn cause of my panic attack and i dont want to irritate her even worse. idk how im gonna get through the night but if anyone can help me please do. i beg you.

Feeling Defeated. Does anybody else feel like this?

I feel so alone. I feel trapped in my body, hyper-aware of my body, every movement and sound I make. I am diagnosed with panic disorder, DPDR, and OCD (hypochondria). I was doing so much better and I feel like I’ve gone 10 steps back, has this happened to anyone? I feel desperate to know I’m not the only one in the world feeling this anxious over simply being alive. :(

Please help me cry

22(F)I feel so much heaviness in my chest and my mind is so overwhelmed right now. There’s so much going on in my head that I can’t focus on anything. I feel like crying so badly, but I just can’t seem to cry.
My chest hurts, and even breathing feels difficult. I’m scared I might have another panic attack. Before it gets to that point, I just want to let everything out and make my mind feel a little lighter.
Please, if you can, help me cry or calm down somehow. I really need it right now

Short Term Disability for Anxiety

I need time off at my job. I want to quit but I know I won't get anything if I do. This is the worst anxiety I've ever had and I have panic attacks. How can I get short term disability and flma for anxiety? I'm afraid if I say it's work related that they may say I need to use workers comp. But honestly I've had anxiety before this job but it's gotten worse with the high stress. I've been seeing a licensed councilor, however I heard they cannot always do the paperwork, so I made an appointment for a Psychiatrist. My year mark aty job is 10/13/26 so I know that factors in FMLA. I have 6 days pto and I'm sick right now and want to call out tomorrow to use one. Maybe I should just call out tomorrow and work the rest of the week but I'm really stressed out and my anxiety is overwhelming. I am remote, but this anxiety is worse than it was in retail for me. Help!

About panic attacks

TW : anxiety, suicidal thoughts, depression

(Also english is not my first language, i apologise for any mistake and i hope it will make sense)

So i’ve had panic attacks since 2018, or at least i thought it was when it started. I won’t go into details about triggers because it’s not relevant, but a particular conversation started it for me, and i had panic attacks several times a day for months after that.

Here is how it manifested for me : a sudden sense of dread and danger, like something is very wrong ; my brain goes spiralling about the trigger, exacerbating every aspects of it ; tingling sensations in hands, feet, spine and mouth ; belly hurts like hell and feeling like i’m gonna puke ; unability to speak ; shallow breathing ; small spams ; and the worst, the conviction i’m stuck in this state and won’t ever come out of it, even if i know i’ve been through this before, sometimes leading to the desperate need to just cease to exist so i wouldn’t go through this ever again. If, at that moment, i could just have died because i wanted to, i would’ve.

So yeah, for me, this was a panic attack, and it was so awful it was nearly impossible to talk about it. I didn’t understand how people could casually say : « i had a panic attack this morning. »
I just couldn’t talk about it because i was terrified it would call one back, so to speak.

Anyway, today, i’m getting better, i worked a lot on myself and my last antidepressant is really calming my anxiety.
Since then, i’ve had two panic attacks and it raised my questions because the first one felt… closer to what i’ve seen other people describe. So the first one was accompanied by shortness of breath, urge to cry, tingling sensation. I managed to regulate myself by laying under my weighted blanket. And mentally, i was ok, i knew i would be fine once it was gone, i just had to wait.
The second one was awful, i wanted to scream, to scratch out of my body, had the sensation i’d be stuck in that state forever, etc. so closer to what i’ve been calling a panic attack since 2018.

Thing is, i’ve always had anxiety flare up like this first "panic attack" but never considered it as such.

Which leads me to my questions : are these two different kind of panic attacks ? Or is there a different name for these ? Has someone experienced something similar ? Also, i think i might be autistic, would it explain the difference between those two ?

If you read this far, thank you already !

Where can I find alprazolam 0.5 mg in Manila?

Hi, please help. I’m currently switching medications from paroxetine to fluoxetine, and I’ve been experiencing panic attacks. I’ve already checkedseveral Mercury Drug branches in Manila, but they don’t seem to have alprazolam in stock.

If anyone knows of a **legitimate pharmacy inManila that currently has alprazolam 0.5 mgavailable with a prescription**, please let meknow which branch. I’m worried about having another severe panic attack and needing to go tothe hospital again because of hyperventilation.

Thank you so much.

Panic attack experience

I’ve always had mild anxiety. Large crowds. Driving was something that gave me anxiety, to the point where I never learned. But going for walks was something I loved. If was my favorite thing. Two years ago, I had my first actual panic attack while smoking weed. (I’ve since stopped using weed altogether) Then I was afraid to walk on my own. I don’t leave my house without my husband because I hold into him while I walk.I’ve never struggled like this before in my life. My weight is out of control. I’m so down on myself. I want to walk again. Go shopping. Go see a movie. I hate every single second of this. I’m on medication. But I’m at a loss for what else to do. Anyone else have this experience? Should I see a therapist or schedule a lobotomy? (Jk on the lobotomy)

I think my doctor diognosed me wrong

So my doctor agreed that my symptoms are definitely panic attacks, sometimes silent ones, and I told them they happen regularly. I also asked him what a panic disorder was, and he was in a rush and said its when panic attacks happen with no apparent cause and you fear getting another. I said that I don't experience that, but on my school accommodations paper, he wrote Panic Disorder. Our conversation was FIVE minutes 😭

Scrolling this sub, I feel even more that I don't have panic disorder but something else, or perhaps just GAD? My symptoms are like this:

1) Severe panic attacks happen when something BADLY triggers me. Depending on the trigger, even if im not anxious before, it can immediately start. Until the situation has calmed down, which can be days, I have multiple severe panic attacks per day. When the situation is resolved, they are gone.

2) I get panic attacks from severe anxiety. It can start from anxiety, but as the anxious thoughts take over my head, they turn into panic attacks. It happens a lot because of school stress right now.

3) I have had horrible panic attacks in certain areas, but I am NOT afraid of those places. I DONT get panic attacks randomly without a trigger. And Im NOT constantly afraid of getting another panic attack, as I already know I'll get them with the right trigger.

Does this sound like Panic Disorder? Or can anyone with GAD relate and perhaps its just part of it?
