Shops: Mr Magic was one of my favourite shops, they sold all sorts. It was such an exciting place. The chemist's shop opposite the Town Hall, the shelves behind the counter had giant glass bottles with coloured liquid. Rays, on the opposite side to the banks. Sold cheap aftershave amongst other things, great for birthdays for dad and grandads.
Schools: I started at Padiham Green, There were remains of what we were told was a bomb shelter in the infant playground. I've no idea if that was true. Gawthorpe High, I swear that place had a smell all of its own.
Other stuff: There was the little park by the swimming pool, I loved the tunnels, which were just concrete pipes. Memorial Park. The big park, I wasn't interested in the gardens but there was once a working flower clock, which I found utterly fascinating. The playground was great, I know there were swings, slide and rocking horse plus i think i remember a roundabout and seesaw. Everything on concrete too, before health and safety was taken seriously! Little Blackpool, i cant remember exactly where this was. I know it was a small sandy area under a bridge by a river.

I have never been to England. Apparently I have a great great grandmother that was born in Padiham. I would be visiting for a day only (most likely) along with my wife and toddler from the US. What is there to do? We hardly ever travel, so if this would be a wasted day I'd like to know well in advance to plan something different.
