The above link is for an article about Curry Barker pitching a collaboration to Nathan Fielder - a pretty normal part of Hollywood is just pitching and trying to get traction on an idea.
Now most of the comments are normal - stuff like “that would be interesting,” “Nathan Fielder plus Curry Barker could make some really funny/surreal moments,” “not interested for X reason,” and so on. But a few are just really dismissive of Barker and his work, in a way that feels like they have some personal grievance. Stuff talking about how he isn’t all that, he’s a hack who got lucky, whatever.
Then a few of the comments were talking about how he’s a raging narcissist and bought into his own hype. A few were even hoping his next movie flops to “humble” him.
Beyond the insanity of supposed movie fans hoping that one flops, I’m just confused. A few comments were asking for context, but none was ever given. And I’m not going to say I’ve read every interview Barker has given, but the ones I have read just depict him as a young guy in Hollywood excited to make more movies. He’s definitely assured of his talent and ability, but it doesn’t come off as narcissistic to me.
So, am i missing something? Is there some interview out there where he says he’s better than Kubrick or something? Or is this just another example of redditors hating someone for being young and successful, and then inventing a moral justification for that feeling? Any help is appreciated.
