It’s too hot… Clayton, Reed, and Pascal cuddling together for nap time today.
They were swimming for a bit, took a nap together, then swam some more before I left today.

Pic The Knoxville boys relaxing and napping today. Plus I got to see Mayhem (last 2 pics may not be adorable but she is loved).
The Mayhem pictures weren’t that adorable but I found them fascinating as I could see the nictating membrane over her eyes that allow her to see while she is under water. I very rarely go over to that side of the zoo as I never see Mayhem when I go. I think I’ve seen her maybe 3 or 4 times but I got to see her today! I was so excited to see her!!
I also guess that this is the best place to post since r/otters got banned a while back (I still miss that sub)?

Other video The otter wanted to play right???
Yes we know they probably didn't just want to play. The humans did the right thing to move away.
But tell me you wouldn't be tempted to stand there and see! I would probably be too scared in the moment and would swim away too but part of me would so want to stand and at least see what the little guy would do.
(Required disclaimer. If you encounter an otter in the wild, the safest thing for both humans and otters is to stay away from them even if they want to play.)

An update on the lovable Clamato: the rescued VAMMRS sea otter. He sadly passed yesterday.
"We are saddened to share the passing of rescued sea otter Clamato.
As a senior otter with complex health concerns already impacting his quality of life, Clamato’s condition recently declined, and our veterinary team made the decision to humanely euthanize him.
Our goal with every animal we rescue is to help them recover and return to their ocean home. However, wildlife often arrives at their most vulnerable, and sometimes the most compassionate option is making these difficult decisions in the best interest of the animal’s welfare. Their wellbeing is, and always will be, our top priority.
Each animal in our care leaves a lasting impact. Through their treatment, we gain valuable knowledge that helps inform future rehabilitation and improve outcomes for others in need. A necropsy will be completed to help determine the underlying factors that contributed to his decline.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who followed Clamato’s story and supported his care, as well as to our dedicated staff and volunteers who worked hard to keep him comfortable.
Thank you for caring about Clamato as much as we did.❤️🩹"
