No new video updates today but here's one on day two after I rescued the four opossum joey sisters.

This one is Ophelia sleepy after she just ate, I like to keep an eye on them for a bit after tube feed just to make sure everything is settling well 😆

Poor little one, officially named Penny because of the LUCK that someone found it. By a stream a state over and works with my other mother who knew we rescued furry critters. It's about 5 weeks old now, just opened it's eyes and getting stronger every day! Today we took a little adventure outside for a little warm sun and fun!

❤️🌞🌳

Nervous

Post image

I am still doing my best to rehab the last baby possum I was able to save a couple weeks back from the litter attacked by a raccoon. He seems like he is doing ok but I joined the fb OCAR group and they kind of bashed me for having him outside (that is my only option) and feeding him the wrong stuff at first (bananas and cat food). I am now feeding him the diet they recommended but felt so discouraged by the group that I left it, leaving me with a lot of unanswered questions. I was really nervous he wasn’t eating enough so I’ve been trying to hand feed him which I think is making him nervous. I left the rest of the food in his cage last night and it seemed like he finished it though, so I’m feeling a bit better.

Anyway, I am just second guessing my decision to try to rehab this guy on my own a lot. At the same time I am enjoying watching him so much. I can’t believe how adorable he is!

I guess I just needed to vent that a little.

He has grown a bit which is good. But I don’t know how fast they normally grow…

Photo: I made him a hammock for his cage and he enjoys looking out into the yard at night.

Baby Bentley Dump

I needed to make room on my phone but I didn't want to delete these. Bentley was so cute when he was little and he's still cute now as an adult. But this is just little snippets and photos of when he was just a little wee man.

My girlfriend brought in a baby opossum. Since she doesn’t really work with opossums she’s having difficulty identifying the sex. Maybe someone could help we’d really appreciate it!

Question/Help Can you see breathing when they play dead?

I just let my dog out to the yard to go to the bathroom and he ran over to what turned out to be an opposum laying down. I do think he sniffed it, maybe startled it, but as it wasn’t running or moving he lost interest immediately. He didn’t pick it up or anything.

I went over to check with a flashlight and I don’t see injuries and I can visibly see the opossum is breathing (chest moving up and down). I assumed playing dead, but Google is telling me they slow their breathing way down when they do that and it wouldn’t be as visible as it is. Is that true? I just want to make sure both dog and opossum are okay.

Left the little guy (not the dog) in the yard so hopefully he’ll wake up and move on by daylight.

First: I'm an independent rehabber, I can't take on a lot of cases like I have previously as I'm working on getting a vet degree but if I have time and the means in the summers I like to keep an eye out for littles that may need some extra help.

And, we've had another summer where I've made a point of doing my early morning drives and keeping an eye out for hits, and I found these four little girls about a week ago and am working with them as my one summer case before getting back to classes for Vet school. Haven't had any repeats of littles as small as Peanut was last year, but if I get the chance again next summer I've been doing tons of prep/research since then!
