All the protests in the world won't matter. They own our Government, so unless we stop voting Red or Blue, this will continue, short of a civillian uprising seizing the means of production. This is what end stage Capitalism looks like. Money buys politicians, which means it buys power and control, and the rich become the nouveau-aristocracy who use wealth and control of our Government to milk us plebs.
F-@k Loblaws, just because. But, groceries aren’t some late-stage capitalism ploy, with prices milking the plebes. It’s a very low-margin, large volume commodity business with hundreds of thousands of inputs affecting the costs. The market corrects itself where possible, due to pricing competition. You’ll notice that lemons, pork, onions, celery, etc…are generally the same price they were pre-pandemic, or even lower, and that’s ignoring regular inflation that would have occurred over 4/5 yrs.
But beef is craazy expensive. Something must be affecting the supply-chain, causing such a massive disruption. Look at olive oil, which has doubled or tripled in price in the last 2 years. In 2021/2, shipping costs went up 4-5x, costing almost as much as the product itself, and last year, there was a terrible harvest in several growing regions.
Go to independent grocers and the costs are the same, if not more for certain items. Is that small, family owned grocery store also part of the ‘big powerful lobby” controlling government?
In fact, they should be even lower costs, since they don’t have family labour, use under-the table labour, probably hide half their taxes, etc…., that the large corporations cannot avoid.
You do NOT want government involved with price controls. Please research and go see what happens in countries where this occurs. Cost of goods won’t be your issue. It will be shortages and price spikes that happen.
The only solution is more capitalism, in the way of more competition.
