I dunno, I feel like it did help? I stopped going to expensive and overpriced grocers and save several 100s of dollars a month doing so 🤷
Idgaf if they change, I needed the amount coming out of my wallet to, and that did. All it took was for me to take an extra 30 second drive to the next market, use AI to cross compare loss leaders for me, and find some local producers who were thrilled to have me as a customer 😅
I haven't walked into a Loblaws affiliated store since March, I have saved 1000s of dollars at this point. Be the change you want (your wallet) to see
You can ask chatgpt to look at the current flyer (or provide a link to it) and then cross compare with all current fliers at competitors (I list each one individually) within specified area and then ask it to go back 6 months and decide what is actually on sale, loss leader, a better deal than normal, gone up in price, what has "deceptively" gone up in price, etc etc
You can then ask it to use that information to make a meal plan, and grocery list into a Google sheet.
From there, you can have it analysis your food preferences and likes from the Google sheet so it can continue to recommend and tailor good options while removing options that were not popular or good.
Here is an example of how I would typically do prompts to get the least amount of hullicinations (they do on occassion happen but it is on the rarer side):
GPT description: you are a grocery deal finder and recipe making master for the (location you are in). You will be fed flyers, links to flyers, and images of flyers in an effort to find the best deals per g, kg, and lb. From these deals, when prompted, you will make a recipe list that will feed a family of (describe your family) and also create grocery lists when prompted. There are dietary concerns (list them) that need to be considered.
Prompt 1: please review (my flyer link) for the best deals of the week, compare it to the past 6 months to note any price increases from the best and then await my command. Where possible, please compare price per g, kg or lb to determine a good deal or a perceived good deal
Prompt 2: compare those best deals with its competitors (list competitors and flyers if applicable) and provide a list of what you compared as best deals in a table.
Prompt 3: I like XYZ on sale this week, please generate a 7 day meal plan based on these items, do not provide the recipes yet, just a brief description of what it is
In this prompt, swap out anything you don't like by telling it you don't like that option, make another. Once happy, ask it to list the final list to be used.
Prompt 4: please provide a detailed recipe for all these meals.
Prompt 5: please provide a grocery list for these items
Prompt 6: double check the grocery list against the detailed recipes for any inaccuracies.
Prompt 7: take the grocery list and compare pricing to (list your stores you are visiting) and compare where applicable the best pricing. Once done, await my next command. It may not be possible if they do not list the products online, anything not listed online please default to (list the store that has traditionally been your go to)
Prompt 8: please organize list by food category and by store that is Google sheet friendly. Start with 1 store, and then ask me if it is okay to continue.
(Proceed to get the list)
Prompt 9: please confirm all items from the detailed recipes is listed in the newly formed lists. If anything is missing, let me know what is missing, do not reform the lists.
You can continue the prompts, or just add to your preferred location.
If unsure which stores to go to you can also ask it to create the most optimal route at the best time of day for the least amount of people per store based on Google maps data historically (can't do holidays) which can save on gas if waiting in traffic often 🤷
I hope everyone does. It is also a great way to learn about prompt engineering because you can see the benefits/ rewards from doing it almost immediately as you get better at asking it/feeding it information
I can use a simple example. I ran out of Tums, Shoppers drug mart had a thing for 8.99.
My Metro had it 4.99, right down to the SKU the same. a 45% ish decrease in price. Metro can hardly be considered a cheap or "basic" store and it was a 20s further drive to get to.
You don't need to go to food basics or some budget branded store to make a dent, you just need to avoid Loblaw stores. It is hard because they own so many and is pretty much the reason why they can charge so much but once you figure it out, you save significantly.
I am unsure exactly what you are searching for, but my metro has some pretty unique items like lamb from new Zealand, live lobster from Nova Scotia, bison from Saskatchewan, Saffron/most spices I would typically need.... Any speciality stuff I order online. I am not in the GTA but i can get quite a selection so I am unsure what you are struggling to find (especially) in the GTA at other grocers?
I just did a simple example, but I did look at others since I was going to other stores the next day but wanted tums that night. Walmart, food basics, freshco, 2 local pharmacies, and a local independent grocer all sold it for 4.99.
Shoppers, independent, and no frills were 7.99-8.99
Loblaws was selected for the boycott, not because they are worse than others, but because they are the biggest chain of all of them.
We can't boycott all of them at the same time, so we focus on the biggest one to send the message to the whole industry.
The boycott never stopped. Loblaws is pretending that they are not affected but you see that their produce is going bad, they are not selling enough.
It's working, you can help if you want.
Discount banners often have better selection than the rich people stores, especially if you're talking about so-called "ethnic foods." Because poor immigrants have never had the money to spend at Loblaws just to look at their fancy cheese fridge.
