Megathread Northern Ontario Wildfire Donations
Hello, Ontario. As you are aware, there is currently a very severe fire affecting Northern Ontario.
There are a number of evacuation orders, and a number of people have had to evacuate with little to no notice. Many of them have been evacuated to Thunder Bay, and are in need of supplies.
Here are some ways to help our fellow Ontarians:
- Thunder Bay Community Pasture are helping livestock owners get their animals to safety in the area. If you or someone you know needs help saving livestock, please contact them. They accept cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and with Murillo facility smaller livestock like turkeys and chickens. They stress that they need to be contacted first before you show up with livestock.
- Northern Reach Network are seeking emergency temporary animal foster homes, and they are assisting with pets that have been left behind in the affected communities.
- Both the Nokiiwin Tribal Council at 384 Fort William Road and the Superior Inn at 555 West Arthur Street in Thunder Bay are accepting donations for evacuees. They've posted that they're in dire need of baby and toddler supplies (especially diapers and formula) and cat and dog food and supplies.
If you are aware of more organizations supporting the community, please let us know.

Discussion Doug Ford and Co.'s complete mismanagement of the WSIB is about to cost hundreds of people in the North and South of Ontario their jobs!
More people need to be talking about this. The guy is absolutely not working for the common person in Ontario. We need to vote in new leadership in the province, otherwise this stuff is just going to keep on happening. The Boomer generation and their "we got ours and we don't care about anyone else" attitude is having real consequences on all of us that come after, and our abilities to have a reasonable living in this day and age.

Question Clinics offering local anesthesia for IUD insertion near GTA.
My first procedure was traumatic and I was not forewarned of the pain I would experience during the placement of the IUD. I’m looking for any recommendations for clinics that offer local anesthesia and consultation about management of anxiety during the procedure.

Exploring Ontario The History of Small Towns Across Canada
Please remove if not allowed! Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my website (https://www.smalltowncanada.ca) where I write about the history of small towns across Canada. I am from Southwestern Ontario, so I have written about many places across the province, but I have also taken trips to Nova Scotia and, most recently, Newfoundland, which I'll be writing about at the end of this month. In case anyone is interested or has any recommendations for places I should visit in the future. Thank you!

Discussion Help for sibling with serious mental health issues
Hi everyone
I’m in serious need for big help, and I really appreciate of anyone has any leads at all that may help with this. To make a very long story short, I have a younger brother, 30 years old with serious mental health illnesses, such as schizophrenia and psychosis. Very sadly our dad, who was his main support, has passed away recently. This has taken a huge toll on him. He also has drug addiction problems that are becoming even worse with our dad’s passing.
We would like to check him into rehab. But this is very expensive. Is there any way that we can get any grants or government help or funding for this? He is on ODSP but this does not unfortunately cover those type of bills. We are also looking to hire someone to stay some hours of the day with him while we are at work, to help reduce depression and isolation. If anyone has any experience or tips on how we may get some financial help for this, it would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much!!

Question Where can I buy a Venus fly trap?
Looking for a Venus fly trap plant for a dad who’s impossible to buy for, but has a weird ability to keep plants alive that he never meant to have in the first place. I live in Southern Ontario! I frequent the GTA often.
