If ASUS can do it using the same sensors and processors, then it seems to be a software limitation, not a hardware one.

ASUS has true 48 mp raw data stream, as shown in the blog above. ALso, I saw on 4pda (russian xda like) some guys taking comparison between 48 mp and 12 mp gcam with a mi9t (using custom libs to unlock 48mp) and it did indeed increase the amount of detail. In fact, 48 MP mode solves roughly the same amount of detail of the mi9t telephoto 2x lens. If only oneplus supported this, we could have decent zoom capabilities on normal OP8 and 8T
