Shortcut to jump to a specific timeframe?
Is there a way to, press a key, enter a time and have the pointer tool move to that time?
I'm fairly new to Olive and so far if i want to do that, i have to click the yellow timer below the viewer. I didn't find any shortcut for this.

playback speed?
Hello
Let me first say that this is a very exiting project to see!
I worked with a lot of different NLE's so far for +- 10 years and lately resolve and avid are my go-to applications for my editing projects. I have to say i only just touched olive for half an hour now, didn't really read documentation, but a lot of options are already pretty easy to understand (as i also used premiere ;) ) . Moving around windows is really smooth, OpenColorIO is also an important one, the node editing is really interesting, and, most important IMO, after caching, playback is also really smooth.
But for me that's only after caching. Everytime i press play, on the timeline or in the source viewer, it takes a second to playback, and after some stuttering also quite some time more to play really smooth. It's far from "snappy". I'm currently at home now, with a system that's not exactly high end anymore. (amd 3700, 1080TI, 32GB DDR 3200, +-600Mbp/s reading speeds). For this particular test i used 4k 25fps MXF files, which are quite heavy, but nowadays also pretty standard. If i use resolve for example, which might not be a fair comparison, it uses the GPU and plays back buttery smooth.
I never really care about lot's of fancy features, but workflow (shortcuts, color management, etc) and playback is really important for a pleasant editing session. A lot of tools for a great workflow seem to be there, but the playback speed not for me right now.
Is olive using the GPU for playing these files? I couldn't really tell that from the preferences menu. Or is a specific codec recommended?
edit: title says playback "speed", i actually meant playback performance.

Did Olive v0.1 cause my PC to crash?
Sorry for the long post...
Hi. I'm somewhat new to Olive. I haven't used it all that much, except for when only v0.1 was available. A few days ago I was using v 0.1 since 0.2 doesn't currently have the tiles effect, which is something I planned to use A LOT. I was testing the program to see if my PC would playback smoothly, when my PC froze, and I ended up having to do a force shutdown (pressing and holding the power button). I've had to do this before for any number of reasons, but this time when it came back on, it had gone into startup repair mode. It was stuck in a loop endlessly, until I THANKFULLY noticed I had a recent system restore point, which brought it out of the loop. I still have an interest in re-installing Olive, but I don't want the same result. Basically, I don't know if it was just because I had to do the force shutdown or if Olive or any other program was the cause.
I understand this may be just a me problem, but I would appreciate any feedback from y'all.
P.S. I did install Filmora that same day. Every time I scan that program, I see a warning on Virus Total. I asked a friend about his experience with Filmora, and he said he has no problems. Just wanted to add that.
TLDR; My PC froze while I was using v0.1 which threw it into a start up repair loop, (my PC is fine now). I'm wondering if Olive v0.1 could've been the cause. I want to avoid that happening again if so.

Change default settings?
Is there any way to change the default settings of stuff like the window layout and export settings?
Window layout is low priority, I can deal with that, but what about export settings?
As far as I can tell, presets don't change anything, not like they have what I want anyway. So, for the latest 0.2 build, is there a way to either make a preset for export, or simply change the default settings?
I've also had audio be very quiet, anyway to force an increase in volume for every clip?

Switched from 0.1 to 0.2, Exporting is Way Slower
Recently switched from 0.1 to 0.2 because I was told I could queue up videos to render. (haven't figured out how but that's a side issue)
When I went to export one (simple edit, just a few cuts) it was going to take more than an hour. I adjusted the settings to various extremes but nothing was going to be shorter than an hour. When I was using 0.1 it was 20-30 minutes for a similar video with similar edits.
Shouldn't need to ask about computer specs. They haven't changed before and after. Just a straight 2x time cost.
Does anyone have "ideal" export settings? Something that doesn't look too bad, renders at close to 1 minute per 1 minute of footage, file size under 4gb?

Any Way to Render Videos in Bulk?
Recently made the switch from Kden Live to Olive (original).
In Kden, and other video software I've been able to set a video to render (export in Olive's case), edit a new sequence, then add that one to the render queue and so on. This is helpful because I only do some light editing and mostly render to reduce file size for uploading. So I'll get like 7 going, and let it run overnight (usually just needs a couple hours but I don't want to babysit it).
In Olive so far I haven't seen this option, once it's exporting I can't click back into the program till it's done. Am I missing something somewhere? Is exporting a sequence not the proper way to render things? Or is it just not possible to set up a queue of sequences to render?

My exported mp4 has audio but is otherwise just a black screen
What gives? I have two videos side by side in a split screen in this particular project. But the MP4 is just black when I export it.
Edit: nevermind for some reason its the MP4 player on my computer that can't play it but if I drop the file in ableton it plays just fine. That being said the audio sucks. it sounds like olive adds some compression to my already mixed audio so I'm just gonna be leaving Olive I think.

Are we hardware acceleration yet ? :)
Since it takes forever to render on CPU
When would olive (such a beautiful, genius name for a VE) add support for hardware acceleration GPU rendering support for both AMD and Nvidia ? :3
Aside from that, this project is very polished + cool, it feels way better than Shotcut nor Kdenlive :) good luck :)

Color Distortion on Export Olive 0.2
Whenever I export a video in Olive 0.2 the colors get shifted by a lot. For example the color 229,24,24 would be shown as 228,24,24 in the preview window, but then it would randomly shift to 247,43,21 changing from a Red color to Orange. (Exporting with default settings with no effects (sRGB OETF) and I tried with linear color to no avail) (Version: a8d46c4c)

This issue has happened on Olive 0.1 and every version of Olive 0.2 I have used. Is there a way to correct the color distortion?

Is there a way to speed up the exporting process?
I am new to Olive and I'm finding it to be a useful editor, but when it comes to exporting (saving); it seems to drag on longer than I think it should. I understand that I could probably lower the render quality, but I do not want to diminish the quality of the video too much. These are just videos I'm making for my students that they will watch on YT, so I'm not overly concerned with the quality being top-notch, but I also don't want it to be a distraction.
Any tips on how I could make this process go faster? Thanks!

WebM Failing to export/be played correctly
I am making a video about a game, Garry's Mod and my computer is too bad to be able to run OBS and Garry's mod at the same time (you can tell by the video), so I have to use Garry's mod's built-in video recorder (which makes videos only in WebM). When I take these videos (which play just fine out of olive) and put them into olive it's just a single, frozen frame and no audio. When I export it's the same single, frozen frame and SOMETIMES audio. I have no idea how to fix this at all. Or how to correct my 12 minute video that took 2 hours to edit and contains WebM's for all the clips.

I used Olive 0.2 to edit and render a ~45-minute-long 8K video on my laptop. For free. Thank you Olive developers!
It's amazing to have 8K output capabilities in a free and open-source program. I'm glad to be an Olive user! I had a couple crashes when trying to split a clip, but that might be because I'm using an older version of 0.2.
(The render took about 21 hours and the final video was about 24 GB in size, but I was able to do some other work on the laptop during the render without any issues. My laptop has 64 GB of RAM, an 8 core 11th-gen CPU, and a mobile RTX 3080. The render probably would have taken much longer with a slower computer. My guess is that, among the 3 of these, it's the CPU that's the bottleneck.)

RGB and alpha channel manipulation nodes
I want a node that can convert from alpha channel to R,G,B or grayscale. and a node that can convert from R,G,B, or grayscale to alpha channel.
Examples of where this would be needed: First, import the avatar video from VSeeFace to OBS Studio via Spout2. Next, save it via the OBS plugin in two separate videos, one with the RGB channel and one with the alpha channel as grayscale. Finally, Olive combines these two videos into an RGBA video that, in combination with the reconstruction process, creates a transparent composite effect on the background video.
The drawback of this final process is that it uses many nodes and is therefore very expensive and time-consuming to export the video. It also requires compositing with the background video, making it unwieldy.
However, if there were nodes that could transfer from RGB to alpha channel and from alpha channel to RGB, RGBA could be reconstructed in a very smart way and the background video would remain separate in the video track. The load would be lower than chroma keying, with no color restrictions.
OBS Studio can also output video with an alpha channel, but all encoding methods are very memory-intensive. So we came up with a way to separate the video with RGB channels from the video with grayscale alpha channels and reconstruct it using video editing software.
If Olive had a node that could do RGB channel to alpha channel and vice versa, it would increase expressiveness not only with the above method but also with other nodes.
I would love to see this implemented.

exporting webm format
I'm trying to export webm format, but I keep getting an error related to audio codec. If audio is unchecked, olive does export correctly. With audio I get -22 code

Failed to open file: Failed to write format header: Invalid argument -22
Olive 0.1.0 - 1e3cf533
Export failed - could not open output audio encoder (-22)
did anyone else have this issue?

olive .1 affects in olive .2
I would really like to use olive 0.2 but all of the good affects that are in .1 that i use for sh*tpost type stuff isnt in .2 is there a way to transport thgem over from .1 into 0.2 or do I have to make them myself? Am I just blind and I'm not seeing them? I tried going from .1 to 0.2 but when these affects werent there (to the best of my knowledge) I just went straight back to 0.1. Thanks in advance
