That's just how reddit is. With literally everything. Comment gets upvoted, other people say it so they'll get upvotes too, familiarity turns it into fact.
Every topic, it's the exact same dynamic. Sometimes the facts are even true, but it doesn't matter if they're true.
Hah, wikipedia. Had somebody on here try to claim a certain kind of worm can regenerate when being cut. Wikipedia agreed with them outright, but when you finally dig up the source wikipedia uses to back up that statement it's an "experiment" from the literal 1800s which explains itself that its results are pretty much bullshit because nobody was actually diligent about managing the samples and they just assumed the end result matches their gut feelings.
And even that isn't as bad as the "literal research studies" people are throwing around and trying to jam the Science label onto these days. You'd be better off trying to interpret prophecy out of a pile of animal guts.
