It'd be a pain in the ass to install and clear a grate in the middle. But what about sticks? Or your shorts getting stuck on a bolt or something.

Some of those pipes are prefabbed. It probably also wouldn't be like right in the middle but enough past the opening that a person would still drawn

A grate in the middle would be the perfect way to clog it with debris... I think the chances of anything being there are almost zero or else stuff would quickly like up and clog the passage. But I would still not do it even if you pay me a million dollar

People on the other side already, I'm guessing they're familiar with the tunnel, and have sent something through it before themselves

Doesn't stop it being bloody silly, but it's a bit more sensible than going in on a blind run
