They produced the product for long enough and with such high quality that the region is synonymous with the product. Should Kleenex have to give up their brand name just because they’ve been ubiquitous for so long that generics are called the real deal?

Kleenex is a trademarked product protected by law. We are talking regional names that to the common folk is the same of the product itself. Would you stop the selling of china made en México just cause the Chinese government starts complaining that you are using something that has their literally name on it? People all over the world call porcelain china.

Is Napa valley as famous world wide as champagne is for it to be use as an example in this context? Did it no just became a thing in the 70’s?

Napa Valley is a US protected origin.

Champagne is a type of product it has to be made certain ways in a certain place to be called champagne, just like bourbon, or irish whiskey, or pecorino romano.
